First videos, new screens for NFL Head Coach 09

EA isn’t stupid. Far from it, in fact. Their first good idea was to bundle NFL Head Coach 09 with the 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition of Madden NFL 09, since the coaching sim probably wouldn’t sell all that well by itself. Their second smart move was to give a hot girl, Amy, plenty of face time in the first videos advertising the game. Check out the rest of the videos at GameTrailers, and you’ll see some gems in the comments, like “I'd like to head that coach!” and “I only clicked this for the chick”.

In addition to the videos, EA sent over a brand-new batch of screenshots, and they’re looking pretty good. In fact, they look noticeably better (at least in terms of aliasing, or lack thereof) than the first images we saw, which I’ve also attached below for comparison purposes. Specifically, check out the New York Giants’ training complex to see what I’m talking about.

You can see the press release for these new screenshots and videos after the jump; it includes details on a number of the game’s features. NFL Head Coach 09 will be out on August 12th as a part of the Madden NFL 09 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition.

NFL Head Coach 09

On August 12, when the all-new NFL Head Coach 09 becomes available in retail stores as part of the special Madden NFL 09 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition, consumers will discover an entirely redesigned NFL Head Coach game that will offer a complete NFL coaching experience. With deep strategic game planning features, NFL Head Coach 09 will place you in the coach's seat, allowing you to scout the opponent, build playbooks, and develop a team that will adapt to the philosophy and system of your NFL franchise. The authenticity and depth of NFL Head Coach 09 is unrivaled; yet its reinvented design will allow you to navigate through the game with ease.

NFL DRAFT

The in-game NFL Draft feature creates an authentic rendition of the NFL's biggest off-season event. As the head coach, you'll have the opportunity to draft your next superstar, trade up or down and receive draft pick suggestions from your coaching staff. You will have access to an extensive amount of information, but it's up to you to make decisions that could create a dream franchise!

LIVE EVENTS

The heat is on as you negotiate contracts and make crucial choices about free agents and trades. You will be under pressure as the seconds tick away on the live clock while you attempt to execute on decisions that you believe are in the best interest of your franchise.

PLAY CREATOR

Because a coach's playbook is fundamental to a team's success, in NFL Head Coach 09 you will be able to build your own customized playbook with "Play Creator". Play options are endless, as you will have the ability to create customized plays step-by-step. Your personal playbook will automatically be available in your profile when you load Madden NFL 09 and you can even share plays with users online.

Say what you will, but I am a huge sports fan and I wound up buying the original as an impulse buy after it was released. I always find myself simulating seasons in Madden so that I can draft players and see how they do down the line. The game has promise, but the first one was just too slow. It had so many loads and waaaaay to many tedious tasks. I don't think I even got through the 1st season when I gave it up.

As a sports nut I think this game will appeal to certain people but will eventually end up failing. I think it's a good idea to include it with Madden but I'm sure it won't get much play, why would you just coach a team when you could actually play with your team?

I don't know, I may try it out again, but only if I can find it cheap.

I'm still not sure why this game exists. So you pick the plays, but don't actually play them? Nice try EA.

I'm so confused as to the point of this game. What's next, American Idol Judge? Where you get to watch people make fools out of themselves, and then insult them until they run off the stage crying.... actually... I'd probably buy that. EA. Get on it.

I love football. Love it. Yet, I don't believe this "coaching simulator" will be all that exciting.
Madden? Yes. This? No.
Sorry, E.A.. I'm being honest.
Hell - I've yet to think about, let alone play, last year's failed attempt.
Has anyone out there?! Really? Anyone? Anyone at all?

E.A., I'll try this game only if I get stuck inside an elevator with a 1080p HDTV, a case of Newcastle, the game and that hot girl. Only if... Period.

The one dude looks like Dana Carvey.

Back on topic, this looks about as exciting as a Japanese train simulator game.

Head Coach could also be a BJ education/simulator game.
