Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

We've seen the screenshots and we've read the info. But as far as I know, this is the first time we're seeing Atari's upcoming Alone in the Dark in action.

The video is taken from a German gaming magazine, Computer Bild Spiele. That is the reason, of course, why you might not be able to understand the narrator. No, we don't have any idea what he's saying, but I've asked Jim Sterling to get Uwe Boll on the phone to do a quick translation, so we'll get back to you on that one.

Visually, the game looks impressive, but the gameplay we're seeing is certainly not what we'd expect from the Alone in the Dark series. For one thing, it's not very dark, there are quite a few unexpected explosions, and there's a whole bunch of platforming going on. Seems like an odd area to demo as a first look.

We should be seeing more at E3, so hang tight.

Looks sort of like Dragon's Lair type gameplay.

Could be sort of fun.

Ah, scripted sequences. What would we do without you.

This game looks kind of cool, seems like it'd be a heart pounding adrenaline rush experience, but where the hell is Alone in the Dark? This looks more like one of those disaster games where you just have to survive a bunch of disastrous events.

Where's Spider-Man when you need him?

Oh yeah, being emo and dancing in jazz clubs.

Quick translation:

Detective Carnby needs to solve the "mysteries" of NYC´s Central Park, which is infested by "creatures straight out of hell". These creatures apparently unleashed an inferno on earth, which you´re about to bring an end to.

What you can see is a building next to the Central Park that you obviously need to climb for some reason.

That´s about what the narrator had to say...

When I get home in the evening (right now it's early in the morning), I might take on some translating (if it hasn't been done already until then). But I wouldn't expect too much, 'cause "Computer Bild Spiele" is one of the more crappier magazines we have over here.

@uptonogood: Good morning. WWII ended 62 years ago.

No prob... and Leroy, yeah without a doubt, Computer Bild Spiele is one of the least reliable sources on the german/austrian gamer market.

Damn that player was farly high... I would love for them to run and job off the building. I'm sure they would splat on the ground, or in this movies case he should have riden that flaming car to his death!

I like it. Even if they shied away from it's roots, I'd say it's still looks like it plays fairly well. That sequence looks like a pretty exciting mini-level.
