For a long time now, EA Sports’ NBA Live series has fallen short of its counterpart from 2K Sports, NBA 2K, in offering a realistic, fun, bug-free game of basketball. In fact, with almost all of EA Sports’ other major franchises -- Madden, NHL, NCAA Football, FIFA -- blowing the competition (where there is some) out of the water, it’s strange that Live has lagged in the quality department.

NBA Live 10 developer EA Canada has acknowledged the faults of its series, and though we’ve heard this refrain many times before, they’re promising that this year, Live will be worth playing. To show that they’re serious, they’ve poached one of 2K’s best gameplay guys, Mike Wang, and made him the lead gameplay designer on NBA Live 10.

Above, you can check out the debut trailer for Live 10, which features this year’s Eastern Conference Finals matchup (Orlando Magic vs. Cleveland Cavaliers). The video focuses on the game’s cover athlete, Dwight Howard.

We’ve also got the first six screenshots of the game for your viewing pleasure in the gallery below. For more on NBA Live 10, check out this promising preview from Brian Ekberg on GameSpot’s Sports Beat blog. Look for NBA Live 10 in stores this October.

Watch that BS at :21-23 seconds. That's why I don't play NBA Live games anymore. The "invisible force field" and the awkward "we already determined this shot's going in" programming.

In addition, why doesn't the video end like it should? With LeBron not shaking Dwight's hand and then having the video confiscated?

(That's right, I went there.)

I'm a Raptors fan and even though the Magic beat us two years ago in the playoffs, I never hated them. They are a team that I find hard to hate. So it really pains me to see Vince Carter in an Orlando jersey. But with Turkoglu on the Dinos now, the Toronto-Orlando match up should be extra intense now.

They poached one of the devs from the competition? Sounds dramatic!

They say the EXACT SAME THING every fucking year. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me like 9 times in a row, shame on somebody, but not me. This trailer looked like the same clunky, too-beefy character models sort of floating around the court and doing flashy canned animations. EA should just give up. Buy the NBA JAM license and do something useful.

Well that's a bad choice for a screenshot to put out by EA. You can clearly see the texture stretching under lebron's arm.
No way around that, it's going to happen when the character lifts his arm, which is why you don't stick the freakin' camera under there.
