First title for WiiWare announced; no, it's not Geometry Wars photo

Courtesy of the fine folks at SPOnG, Destructoid has received word that the Viennese company, Bplus, is the first to announce an original title for Nintendo’s upcoming WiiWare channel. Since Austrians always say it better, you can have it from them in their own words:

"The Viennese company Bplus, which celebrates its fourth birthday today on 07-07-07, is proud to announce to be, as Nintendo official developer, among the first that offer original game titles for the new Wii download service.

The start is made with the innovative puzzle shooter game PLATTCHEN - twist 'n' paint which has been designed specifically for Wii and its innovative new controller. Supported by the test team of the Austria-exclusive GameClub, which only consists of Nintendo enthusiasts, Bplus creates an easily accessible and exciting game experience that will easily attract hardcore Nintendo fans as well as relatively unexperienced players."

As with most PR blurbs, this one contains very little actual info. So to find out more, I did a little poking around at Bplus' site to see what other fine games the company has previously developed. Strangely, it would appear that PLATT CHEN twist ‘n’ paint will be their first title, ever. Not that this should be considered negative in any way, but I am certainly going to have a “wait and see” attitude until I actually, ya know, see something from them.

[Thanks to Xzyliac, who is not Joe Burling, for the tip]

Geometry Wars could be considered WiiWare, as it isn't an emulation of previous Nintendo titles.

Also, sarcasm.

@ Spykron

I noticed that too, and thought it was weird. Also note this line: "Supported by the test team of the Austria-exclusive GameClub, which only consists of Nintendo enthusiasts"

There's a ringing endorsement if I've ever heard one ;)

I think I'll wait and see what the second title for WiiWare is going to be, thank you very much.

I wonder if Nintendo can adjust the Wii to be able to read games off of SD cards. Between the VC and Wiiware channels space is going to go pretty fast, and transferring stuff is just a bitch.

Nintendo is weird when it comes to debut titles.

First Red Steel is used to debut the Wii and now this for WiiWare. Did they even have any say?

@ MasterMS:

They'll have to do that or release the rumored hard drive add-on. I realized the other day I'm just a few more n64 titles away from maxing out my Wii's storage. One or two Neo Geo games will killing the rest of the space without a doubt.

I thought the Impossible Mission Remake was going to be the first original WiiWare game?

grr, stupid comment system.

Here's what I'd like to see for WiiWare: Crimsonland. It's probably my favorite indie gaming title ever. Think Geometry Wars, only instead of flying a spaceship shooting shapes, you're running around a wasteland shooting zombies. And the control scheme is perfect for the wiimote-nunchuck combo.

Twist and Paint? Don't tell me it's a semi-clone of Goo -- you know, of Kai's Power Tools fame.

@Pangloss: Crimsonland is indeed cool. It might be hard to see all that stuff at once on a TV, though. Geometry Wars works so much better because it has a black background and colorful shapes. Crimsonland is muddy and definitely designed with computer monitors in mind.

How much does it cost to get a WiiWare license? If its not too much I suggest we all club together and geta Dtoid software house going for WiiWare and XBL! It would be made of win and cocks.
