Wait... Command... and Conquer? But... thats an RTS game...?
:S
Honestly after the awful mess that was C&C4 I have high hopes a dev as competent as Bioware can make a great C&C game. I look forward to it's return to form.
Not to mention Frostbite 2. It speaks volumes to the engines versatility to go from BF3 to this. :)
But while its good to see C&C be rebooted, this will no doubt have EA's bullshit lined with it. Origin exclusive, no mod support, ect. So no, as a fan of the C&C franchise from the very first in 1995, i will not be getting into this one. I do not support Origin, i do not support the no modding stance, as anyone who knows C&C knows mods are a HUGE part of the games. Im interested in how it turns out, but otherwise im not touching it with a 30 ft pole.
I agree with you on Origin. It's awful. But you judged this literally before any actual news came out for it. I know EA has been selling out on tickets to the shit festival lately, but don't write the game off until the nails are actually in the coffin.
I usually would, but EA has destroyed my franchise so many damn times now, dont think nails would reopen the wounds lol. Im not entirely throwing this into the fires, as im sure VG will do a great job. Its just all the bullshit that will be tacked on because of EA. Origin is just something i despise and modding for a C&C like i said is a huge deal. People are still modding the oldest of the C&C games to this day, so for one to release now with no modding support, will be a disaster waiting to happen. I can hope EA will do things right by the C&C community, i just dont think it will happen, EA is hell bent on shitting on its customers at every turn. Its not really even the games fault ive already taken a hostile stance to it, just solely EA and my disgust with them.
Yeah. You pose a very valid argument. It's really sad but it's true.
What makes all this most sick I think, is that EA had finally won me over with all the cool things they'd been doing.
Then last year they decided to toss ALL the customer goodwill they generated after being the original Evil Empire company (pre Activision).
It hurts most because I too love the C&C games. And I LOVE modding. Its what separates PC games from Consoles. Truly its like bliss.
Hell even the Fan operated Renegade remake looks fantastic and better than the original.
The fans know whats right. EA is totally out of touch and out of line with their insane new policies. Origin needs to go.
After the disgrace they've made with C&C 4 EA can go fuck themselves
The fact that another RTS games is coming out is excellent for the RTS market
It's coming on origin? You may superfuck yourself.
Thta's...that's all.
Sorry. Apparently everyone doesn't include me, and when I heard on twitter that a new BioWare game was being announced I let my excitement get the better of me.
Also the fact that Frostbite 2 can do this game doesn't speak 'volumes' to it's versatility. Practically every 3D engine can do 1st person, overhead view, 3rd person, etc. It's just a matter of moving a camera and drawing different HUD elements. But it's ok that you didn't know that ;)
This. It's written all over the sky.
@Marc +1
Can't wait to see what those crazy GLA guys are cooking!
This.
Except I'd replace franchise with genre. Really, Bioware? Really?
When I heard NEW BIOWARE GAME I was hyped. To hear it's an RTS is a huge disappointment. To read in the comments that it's not even the actual Bioware studios is the nail on the coffin for this game before it even launches.
Oh and <insert mandatory hateful comment about Origin, despite it working 99% flawlessly for me ever since the launch of BF3>.
There's only so much detail you can pack into a screen, and adding more polygons doesn't help after a while.
What this game really needs, meanwhile, is a bigger screen size. I'd gladly trade some of those polygons for a setting that renders the image at 2x size, then smoothly scales it down (Witcher 2 style), eliminating the ugly aliasing and dotted-line telephone wires.
but really c&c generals was an amazing game and the rts genre has not had many good games over the past years which is quite a shame as its a great genre.
If serious, this guy has no idea what he's talking about. C&C 3 was "going back to its roots", Generals has always been the black sheep of C&C, at least prior to C&C 4 flat out sucking and EA treating Red Alert like a comedy instead of what it actually was.
Then we got frostbite 2 engine witch is going to spell doom for anyone trying to play this game competitively on a machine that has an ATI card cause if they do not have an option to turn off the physics then they are screwed out of every big battle. (just like BFBC2)
honestly the textures do not look much better than RA3, and while better lighting and shadows would be nice, I just do not think that this is kind of game-play change fans really want.
Not that this is impossible, I want EA to succeed in bringing back my favorite RTS series C&C but... over the years after dealing with them after West-wood broke up; they just do not spend enough time/money/resources to really make games that the RTS community can love, besides C&C 3 which was awesome (but still sort of broken)
1)they are using an IP that was not known for being good at all
2)The engine they are using was meant for a FPS not an RTS and will probably not have the net code to really support it like it should.
3)While bioware is great they have not made an RTS
4) it is about ten years after since the original Generals came out and most of that group probably do not want to play it.
those are four really big mountains EA is going to climb and own if they want this game to do well.
Good Luck !!!
1) It is the best selling C+C in the series, Zero Hour was one of the best expansions for a game to date. and it is by far the most enjoyable LAN game in the series.
2) Just because the graphics engine is made relevant by a game such as Battlefield 3, doesn't mean it lacks the versatility to expand outside that genre. Just look at the vast array of games that use the Unreal 3 engine. Also, PCs have a handy ability to evolve without the need for 5 year gaps in the market.
3) It is a new division of BioWare, containing many of the people who made the original Generals. Companies tend to expand after being a success, and add to that The Old Republic is yet to be released.
4) Based on?
Thing about an FPS, even an open one like Battlefield 3 multiplayer, is that you know where the camera's going to be from moment to moment. With an RTS, an entirely different section of world is just a minimap-click away.
