First screens of NiGHTS sequel on the Wii photo

We reported on this highly anticipated Wii exclusive being more or less official earlier this week, but I guess this makes it extra official. Unless this is just some (very) elaborate April Fool’s joke. And if that is the case, touché, Sega, touché.

Portuguese magazine Maxi Comforted has the first images from NiGHTS 2 (tentative title) and they look pretty great. Based on the pics in the article, everything is very reminiscent of the original, which is most definitely not a bad thing. The style in the first NiGHTS was awesome and this Wii iteration looks to be no different. I can’t wait to see the first video of everything in action, as NiGHTS really shines once you see it all in motion.

I don’t speak a lick of Portuguese, but I will attempt to translate what the article says:

Night man air. Stop bad night dream. NiGHTS Wii pretty. You mote of Wii to guide Night man in Night level. Smooth fly. Twisted mote of Wii go up. Jerked mote of Wii make spin. Online may but friend code make angry. Enjoy fun NiGHTS on Wii.

Okay, that was a waste. While I go wander the streets looking for someone who can help me out with the translation, take a gander at all the scans in the gallery below.

What do you think? Pretty nice, eh?

After Sega ruins this classic, they will be all out of mascots to kill. Perhaps Nintendo will let them borrow some of theirs?

@yaesir,
You speak Portuguese? Sweet. Portuguese people are awesome!
Can you check out the scans and send the translation to tips@destructoid.com?
I will totally give you credit for the help (and a cookie). :)

@yaesir,
Actually, the text is embedded in the scans (in the gallery) and I can't extract it. Is it possible to just transcribe from the pictures? Sorry, I know that is not an ideal situation. :(

True...man I used to love Sega and everything they did, now they are pretty much garbage...

I don't speak portuguese, but it's easy to understand. I'm peeing in my pants right now, as the article says, NiGHTS is often hard to understand if you never laid your hands on it.

I must get a Wii. Now. *Goes out for some robbery*

i loved Nights. I WANT THIS GAME!

i hope it supports 480p(rofl @ weak HD Wii capabilities).

i just got an HD TV and i relize that the Wii needs to be able to support at least 720p(hell i think i'd be happy with 720i).

I really hope they work on that character model...Over at Kotaku I posted that the it looks pretty good but upon seeing the bigger images Nights looks a bit blocky and stiff...Can't wait for video though. I'd love to see some blown out bloom lighting here too, I think it'd add to the magical feel. Never played the original.

*Reading some more*: Related to game modes, it will feature a 2 players mode, and will also have "some online features". Online multiplayer?

It will also feature some new characters, including the two kids from the first game (Claire and Elliot). Bigger bosses, bigger environments, more freedom of movement (the first game was criticized for being too "track based").

Not really much info, the journalist end up drooling daydreaming about more sequels to classic Sega titles (Shenmue 3, Burning Rangers).

Sorry, but I'm too lazy to translate everything, it isn't really worth it anyway.

I am translating what's left, do i need to translate the interview too? Because it will be almost the same as that one.

Yeah, WhereTF is the final chapter of Shenmue?

@Snail, I've only played Nights briefly a long time ago at a rich kids house that I knew only a little bit at the time. I liked what I played, but 5 min with a game doesn't mean shit.

@ Hushgush, what is "ontinental"?

I really hope they include the original on the disc as well so more people can play it. That or release the original on the VC somehow (or a preorder prize/limited edition thing).

Looks more like Dreamcast level graphics to me, at least the main character's model and overall hardly even high end GameCube level. Surely they can do better than that.
