First screens for Major League Baseball 2K9 look like, well, baseball photo

Yup, that’s baseball, all right.

This afternoon, 2K Sports sent us a whole two -- count ’em, two -- screenshots of their upcoming baseball title, Major League Baseball 2K9. Both images feature coverboy Tim Lincecum in the middle of his freaky windup, getting ready to unleash a fireball on a hitter who’s likely cowering in the batter’s box at San Francisco’s AT&T Park. Check them out in the gallery.

MLB 2K9 is set for release in the first week of March, and it will be the only baseball videogame available on non-Sony platforms (it’ll be out for the PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, and PSP). If you want more information, you can check out its features list, or its official Web site. And for a mildly amusing video starring Lincecum, head here.

Is it me, or updates on the new baseball releases really goddamn scant right now? I'm only interested in The Show anyway, last year's EA offering was fucking terrible.

Well when 2K bought the rights to make baseball games, locking out EA, that really hurt baeball games.Mvp baseball was my favorite baseball game on the last gen consoles, but after playing MLB the show, Im satisfied.

I love the show too. It's too bad I suck at batting haha. My strategy is try and get someone on base, then have David Ortiz hit a home run by some luck.

@Tdiddy: No kidding man. MVP was great. The Show is good too, but man, batting was a chore at times and it completely baffled me as to why there was no batting practice mode (at least, that I could find). Never had a problem with batting in MVP, which was just a solid title through and through. The Show is still good, and the presentation factor was pretty solid; I'm really looking forward to it, despite the lack of pretty much any baseball game news.

When I tried 2k8 last year, the demo, I became increasingly frustrated with the thumbstick-does-everything controls. That game could kiss my ass.

@everyone: I still maintain that EA's MVP Baseball 2005 is the best baseball game ever.

the best baseball video game ever was the first RBI baseball.

The pitching and fielding in 2K8 were significantly better and more skillful than the show, but batting was pretty much timing and was little different from button-batting. The show can kiss my ass with its archaic pitching controls.

Since I've got a Cricket game for my 360, I've got boredom-in-a-box in legio... so no need for a baseball game to add to that collection :p
