First official screenshots for Pokemon Black/White photo

Sick of looking at low quality magazine scans of Pokémon Black/White? How about sampling these low quality official screens of Pokémon Black/White instead? The game's Web site recently updated with a smattering of images for the big series revamp, and it's looking pretty snazzy.

The images show off a few of the details we covered yesterday, including the 3D towns and the combined Pokémart/Center. There's also an image of the new-look "intense" battle screen, if you want a gander at the allegedly more dynamic combat.

Promising stuff, and I really have no doubt that it'll be a fine title, since Game Freak rarely lets us down. Again, I can only hope that the EV/IV hidden stat bullsh*t isn't so obscure this time around, but I'm not betting the farm on it. In any case, I'm looking forward to Black and White. How excited are you?

@bolduck. I thought the same thing too, but the series is still popular with the kids and young(somewhat creepy) adults.

I may give this one a go though if it looks like fun.

I don't know how I feel about the 3D look. Some screens it looks good, others kinda junky. Oh well, guess we have to wait until it's closer to launch for some more info.

Well... every Pokemon game that has been released so far (DS games included) have sold more copies than any PS3 or PSP game ever released.

Fact.

So "more intense battles" means that instead of seeing only the upper body of your own Pokemon, you now see the whole thing? Wow...
But maybe that screenshot is too little to speculate about.

You know, I may be contributing to the stagnation of the series by buying one of the new games each time they come out, but dammit, it's still a damn fun game.

Holy cow! Is this the Pokemon kids are playing these days? Last time I played Pokemon it wasn't even in color, but I was the coolest kid on the black because Blastoise was on the box. What else have I missed?

I'd need to see a battle in action before I could agree whether or not they're now more "intense." If they really wanted to mix up the Pokemon formula they could make it an uber game. New region in the beginning then travel to all the ones from previous games. It'd be epic JRPG status in terms of length.

I am not pleased with the new town views. Yes it's 3d, but it looks really isolated which leaves me feeling like there is a lot less world going on.

The towns on all the other pokemons where connected for the most part. You never got to see horizons or anything. Which made it feel like you could keep walking from town to town for days.

This isolated city view makes the world look very small and it doesn't even look polished.

Lets hope it's good.

120% excited, of course. I'm still "milking" my SoulSilver, can't get enough of it and I'm quite excited for Black/White. However, I'm a little skeptical about the new Pokémon, I'd like them to be like the first two generations were: cute and in some way simple, sithout all those rings, stripes or spikes in their bodies.

It takes a special kind of pokemoniac to keep tabs on EV spreds.

@ Jim - ever consider Shoddy Battle? It's an online simulator that lets you make any team in the game, and try it out against other people. It's a lot less painful than making the team in-game, and it tells you the EVs/IVs you're running.

It's necesary to use to be great, because it's the only way to get practice with what your team will eventually be without making the team from scratch each time. Also, the opponents are the best you'll find among any pokemon players because not only do they have their final teams from the start, but have practiced against other people who have their final teams. It's pretty much the only way to be a "Pokemon Master", as without it, you will lose to other shoddy players who have ten times the practice against the best possible teams.

Wow, that new 3D city area looks snazzy indeed.

From that lonely screenshot I'd guess the battle screen consists of a 3D arena and dynamic camera, but with standard Pokémon sprites thrown in there. Not as awesome as it could be perhaps, but I'll hold judgment until I see more than just a single screen.

Well considering it doesn't look impressive being merely average even for a DS game, that is indeed a strike. The second being we haven't seen the animations in action and if this is representative of the quality in the game then it's just a gimmick. The third being is that the vertical aspect is not that big of a deal. All I'm seeing is some skyscrapers and very basic pokemon animations being done, all of which should have been done years ago.

Overall it looks like more of the same that we've been playing for the past 4-5 years.

Considering the third and the last screenshots, I wonder if the game will give up on its "the whole overworld is one giant map" thing... that was a nice touch. Oh well, wait and see.

I don't have a DS (hell, I don't even have a GBA) , but if someone lets me try it out, I'd be interested.

I fail to see how a grown man playing Pokemon is any different from a grown man playing Super Mario Galaxy, LittleBIGPlanet, or any other E-rated game. It's all in good fun. Hell, if you tell most people you enjoy playing any videogame, you get still get looks like "What are you, 10?". I showed my own mother Mirror's Edge once and the same thing happen. She looked at me like I was playing with a child's toy. I love her, but people can be such ignorant assholes.
