First official images of Advance Wars: Dual Strike 2 scare me (in a good way) photo

If you baked a huge cake using my favorite video game series of all time as ingredients, Advance Wars would be, like, the chocolate pudding center. It may not be necessary (unlike the Mario eggs and Zelda icing), but, once included, it just makes everything taste so much better.

Okay, that analogy really didn’t make any sense at all. What I was trying to say is that I love the Advance Wars series and am more than ecstatic that a sequel to one of my favorite DS games ever, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, is coming out.

And while these first official screens (which you can check out in the below gallery) don’t really offer that much information about the game, they do look really pretty and prove that the series seems to be growing up.

Replacing the overly cartoonish characters and bright colors are some really dramatic poses and “hardcore” Earth tones. Not a bad creative decision by any means, I am just a little frightened by all the harsh scowls and stormy skies. Lighten up, everyone, it’s just war!

What do you all think? Are you as excited about this game as I am?

I couldn't be more excited for this game. I welcome all the visual changes I'm noticing n the screenshots as well. And Advance Wars cake sounds delicious...mmm.

i'm actually a fan of the cartoony look... but i'm a big enough fan of the series to not mind if they change it up a little :P

Damnit!

Anyway, I can't agree with you. You talk as if the "overly cartoonish characters" were the status quo. One of the things that attracted me was that it was colorful and funny but never crossing over the "wackiness" line. I mean, sure, it's not like we already have tons of games with melancholic color tones and over-dramatic designs and plots.
Now I just hope this doesn't turn dramatic-of-a-plot. AW's plots have been interesting but never childish, or depressing, angst-filled like this one seems to want to be. Hope it doesn't.

This is exactly what the series needs!

Another game with the same art style from the previous three would just be too much. The new art looks hot and the gameplay looks unchanged.

I can't wait.

A blob of pudding in the center of a cake would ruin it. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?

(Also, "The cake is a lie" is my new favorite VG quote of all time. I thought I'd throw that out there.)

While I got nothing against the old style advance wars, this new art style/character design does look really quite good. I've not given dual strike the time it deserves, but this game is definitely on my radar.

I definitely like the new style. Considering the fact that war itself is a mature topic, it makes sense to have a mature style.

Although I did like the old style as well.

The analogy made perfect sense!! Why?
Because cake is good and so is Advance Wars =)

@Aerox
I dunno, it could be like a giant cupcake or twinkie but instead of the white cream filling it has chocolate pudding, doesn't sound bad at all.

(I know!! That line is stuck in my head, also the voice when it says "and at the end there will be cake".)

Personally, I'm excited. The more I see of this game the better it looks. Even though the previous art style was good, I think this may be better.
