First next-gen Splatterhouse screens hit the web, very bloody photo

Czech gaming Web site Tiscali Games has just posted the first screenshots from Namco Bandai's upcoming next-gen gore fest, Splatterhouse.

From the screens the game looks to have a God of War-like vibe, with the 'roid-raged Rick tearing apart monsters with both his bare hands, in addition to busting skulls with his trademark wooden board. Other than the fact that Rick looks disproportional and ridiculous (which we already were prepared for), there's not much else to go on.

I'm all about tearing off monster's heads and smashing in their faces with 2x4s, but I'm going to remain cautious about this title. There's something about it that just looks ... off. Am I alone in this feeling?

You're not alone, I'm really unhappy that they're making a next gen Splatterhouse. It deserves to be remade/remastered as a DS/PSP game in my opinion.

I have a feeling this is going to be awful.

It definitely doesn't feel right, I agree. I hope it's just due to the game being incomplete because a God of War style Splatterhouse game sounds awesome.

Those ground textures look really bad, was the first thing I noticed. And you know they're bad when the picture shows Rick v2.0 putting a 2x4 through some creature's skull.

Yeah... that shot looks *really* rough. Very last-gen. This must be either concept art, or a really early build.

I played a demo rom of the 1st one and it was hard but damn fun (need to find an actual WHOLE version....)

Hopefully this one is still as fun.

I am not stoked about the character design. It's all clunky and stuff ... and, like Max said, the textures are pretty rough.

Looks like a PS1 game, IMO. Maybe the characters look like PS2.

But compare this to a Medieval screen shot.

Looks like a bunch of 40 year old businessmen had the idea to remake Splatterhouse after watching their sons play the first level of God of War, walked into an 8th grade Art Class and asked everyone to draw what they'd like to see Splatterhouse look like if it was NEXT-GEN, then picked the resulting concept art at random and made the kid executive producer of the project. After that they went into the computer programming class and waved a poster of Duke Nukem Forever around and grabbed the first kid that stood up.

Anyone else like how in some of the screens his arm is coming apart? About time we get actual damage done to our characters as our life bar depletes.

Actually, I just read the EGM article (from which I hope these screenshots were not ganked from), and I'm a bit more optimistic about the game. It's being developed by the cats who did Mark of Kri, and they do some pretty solid work.

And about the arm, jpitner -- the game apparently has a health regeneration system, so what you're seeing will regenerate over time (thing Halo, but with flesh). Could be a cool effect if done right.

I, for one, am not expecting a gaming revolution. I'm expecting a gory, silly, big dumb action game. It looks like I'm going to be happy while everyone else is complaining.

Which is ironic.

This is why some super dev. team should be made, only for the sake of porting old games to new consoles. Who would it be? Hey, it's my idea... and it's not going to happen, so why bother?

Ugh, yeah, something about the screens definitely looks bizarre. I'm holding out til there's more about the game though, cause I've always thought the Splatterhouse series looked awesome and Mark of Kri was a pretty bitchin' game. If nothing else, it's finally motivating me to finally seek out some ROMs of the original games.

@Nick

I get my EGMs sooo late most of the time (I still don't have this issue). There was one time where my local Walgreen's got an issue a full week before I did and Walgreen's gets their magazines way later than most newsstands.

Looks like Death Jr.

Splatterhouse 2, with pixelated graphics and altered-beast-like soundtrack was scary and depressing.... if you took too much time to finish the game your wife and kid die... thats Splatterhouse, not this x-steroids-xtreme-fest
