Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Mass Effect, the controversial lesbian orgy simulation with some minor space shooting action, will be getting some fresh new content on March 10th. The "Bring Down the Sky" DLC will run for 400 MS points (which is $40 in Nick Chester currency) and offer 90 minutes of new story. The new story introduces a new alien race called the Batarians whom have hijacked an asteroid station that has been set on a collision course onto the planet Terra Nova.

For the five dollars, you're getting 90 minutes of new story and gameplay. This, to me, is DLC done right. Hit the jump for the PR and to see how much the new pack will add to your achievement scores.

The Epic Journey Continues with the Release of the First Downloadable Content for the Sci-Fi Blockbuster "Mass Effect" on March 10, 2008

To date, more than 1.6 million gamers have explored the engaging sci-fi universe of "Mass Effect." Beginning on March 10, fans everywhere will be able to expand the "Mass Effect" experience with the release of the first ever downloadable content for the award-winning saga.

The "Bring Down the Sky" downloadable content pack will be released to Xbox LIVE Marketplace on Monday, March 10 at 2 a.m. PDT, and will be available for 400 MS points. This is the first in a series of planned downloadable content that further expands the "Mass Effect" universe and continues the adventures of Commander Shepard and the Normandy crew.

"Bring Down the Sky" includes a new uncharted world that introduces the notorious and feared alien race of the Batarians.  A Batarian extremist group has hijacked a mobile asteroid station in the Asgard system, setting it on a collision course with the nearby colony world of Terra Nova.  Only Commander Shepard can save the millions of innocent civilians before the asteroid completes its deadly descent.

"Bring Down the Sky" contains approximately 90 minutes of heart-pounding action and a new Achievement worth 50 Gamerscore points.

LOL @ Nick Chester.

This is freaking awesome. This is how DLC should be done.

Now all we need is a patch that lets you continue playing after you complete the main storyline. There's plenty of sidequests that I didn't get to complete.

Way to be a killjoy, caffeine... I personally think it would be pretty sweet, as long as the "90 minutes" holds up to gamer scrutiny and isn't a cookie cutter sidequest.

I can tell you right now there had better be some very revealing sex scene or I am not down. $70 dollars for the Limited edition and there was no extra sex. I had to save my file and keep reloading it to even get off. Bring on the hard core side boob and i'm in.

Awesome news. I am playing it through for the second time with a new character. This should make the third playthrough worthwhile ;)

I won't bother playing Hardcore difficulty again. It's not that hard, its just that the enemies have so much damn life ;P

Sounds great, even when i expect 90 minutes to be more like 45.

And 50 experiance points. Please say this means a further 4 DLCs are on the way to bring it up to its downloadable achievement quota.

$5 for 90 minutes of what?
$5 for 45 minutes of dialog trees and 45 minutes of action?
$5 for 90 minutes of straight up action?
$5 for 20 minutes of vehicle crap followed by 40 minutes of dialog and 30 minutes of combat?

Seriously, this really seems like an awful deal except for those Mass Effect fans that completed every side quest before finishing the main game.

I second the comment of wanting a free patch that allows to go back and continue the game after finishing the main storyline. I'm not about to replay the entire game just so I can access this $5 content.

Listen, DLC is a way of life, like it or not. And like it or not, a lot of it probably isn't going to be worth the cost. So, when something like this comes along - whether it was withheld from the retail game or not - I think we need to salute it. Mass Effect is a robust, lengthy game. It's not lacking any content (shut up, Jim), so anything new is welcome, I believe. And $5 for a 1-2 hour mission? Reasonable.

@Caffeine: I don't know, perhaps? The game already provided me with 40+ hours of gameplay and was well worth the sixty bucks I spend. As long as this isn't a generic sidequest like the sidequests in the vanilla game, I'm ok with five bucks for more stuff.

is it best to dl this after you beat the game? i have never added dlc to any games

@Psywolf

Unless they fix the game to allow you to go back and finish missions you skipped before you beat the game (presently when the game ends...That's it, you can't go back and finish other stuff), you'll want to download it first and play it.

I'm still amazed at the people that think $5 is reasonable for this paltry type of add-on given the overall scope/length of the game. Unless it's wedged into the main storyline, you'd still have to hunt it down to even access it.

What? No horse armor? I wanted horse armor, dammit.

Seriously though, this sounds fairly decent to me for $5, even if it ends up being just another "drop down onto a planet in the Mako, drive around for a while, find a building, go inside building, fight a bunch of guys, see 5-10 minutes of sidequest story, make a Paragon/Renegade choice, finish sidequest" thing. Still, I hope it's more like the sidequests that take place on the Citadel and the main story planets, since those tended to be more interesting than the generic Mako missions. And, again, at least it's not horse armor, or whatever the Mass Effect equivalent would be.

JamnOnTheOne: Most of us are looking at it compared to other DLC content. Like Halo 3. $10 for 3 lack luster maps compared to $5 for 90 minutes of new content is a great deal. Otherwise, I hate DLC all together.

I already beat Saren, and my character is saved to the Saren fight. Will I have to start a new character, or will this let me play the game after vanilla Mass Effect's end?

I have a spare 400 and this is way earlier than I expected. It's awesome to finally see a Batarian seeing as they are such an important part of the universe. I still have missions to complete too but I'm definitely gonna grab this straight away.

This is pretty cool i guess.

I just hope it's real gameplay instead of 5 the same looking bases on different planets filled with different enemies.

I loved the main story of Mass Effect but when I tried to get the completionist achievement I just got bored with the repetitiveness of the sidequests..

It has got my interrest but I would first like to read some opinions on the DLC once it's released before I buy it.
Although this would be nice to spend my points on since i have 1300 left after REZ
