Mario Kart Wii has finally launched around the world, and Nintendo has announced today that they will be kicking off the first worldwide tournaments.

Available via the in-game Mario Kart Channel, the first tournament has racers competing for the fastest time on the Mario Circuit. You'll also be able to attempt to break records as often as you like throughout the duration of the tournament, so if you blow it once, never fear. The best time will then be recorded and added to the worldwide ranking, and the player with the fastest time will win ... bragging rights?

Since finishing my review, I have to be honest -- I haven't really been playing a lot of Mario Kart Wii. Something about an Eastern European dude and his cousin. But I may fire up my Wii to participate, even though I don't have a snow balls chance in hell of winning.

Is anyone here confident enough in their skills that they're willing to start talking smack right now?

Ugh kinda wish it was time trials or something. I keep getting item raped and definitely like 20 seconds behind the top ten in the region.

Still it's a pretty solid idea. I'm loving the MKW channel now that i finally got it working

I'll probably try the challenge, but there's no way in hell I'm gonna win. I'm just not that good.

Well I've put in about half an hour and set a respectable time. Though I was just tearing through the last lap seeing I was going to beat my time then getting blue shelled... arghhhhhhh.

Could someone please explain to me how and/or why nintendo's servers work fine with this game and not SSBB? No seriously, I don't understand why one would work and not the other.

I worked on the tournament a little bit, but the top record is still 10 seconds better than my best time. I mean, it would be nice to see at least one other country in the top ten other than Japan. But that's probably asking too much... It would be nice if you were able to see the replay from the top ten, to discover their secrets, and/or know that they aren't cheating!!!

I would really like a challenge on WFC though. It seems like the majority of the people on there are complete noobs, and the challenge is lacking. And that's really not a bold statement. Yes, I am ready for a serious challenge on Mario Kart. If anyone's up for it, lemme know please.

As far as the difference in SSBB and MK... That really is bizarre, and I was wondering the same thing. I've run into a few problems, but for the most part, things have been going smoothly. *crosses fingers...
