I had the distinct pleasure of visiting Relic Entertainment in Vancouver for a special first-look preview of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. It's been far too long since we got down and dirty with a real action game set in the 40K universe, and this initial glance at the game tells me that the wait was worth it.
Check out our special video glimpse of Space Marine, where we give you the lowdown on this really promising action title. Relic wants to compete with the very best titles on the market, and so far I have little reason to doubt that the team can go toe-to-toe with the biggest AAA shooters out there.
We have more Space Marine coverage coming up, as I had a chance to chat with the team behind the game and get some cool stories for you. Keep reading Destructoid for more on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine as and when it happens!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Any word?
The background music was a nice touch.
It's great to see it in action too. I think they've got a bit more work to do (hopefully you really dont end up just standing still and shooting things all the time) but I have faith in Relic still.
Bolters are for babies.
"Space marines have gotten such a bad reputation as of late... weird to actually see the phrase used in a game let alone the actual title. Still if it's a good game I'm still up for it."
WH40K has the original space marines... well.. at least when it comes to anything -close- to gaming.
Good stuff, Jim.
I'm hyped for this. Orks, loot and Space Marines = nerd heaven.
I can't even hear what Sterling was saying, I'm too focused to the background music!
I cannot bloody wait for this. So violent. So epic. So awesome.
There's a vid on the xbox dash (probably on YouTube aswell) of an interview with a dev on the game and they said they didn't want the marines to be weak. Staying true to the lore of 40k these guys don't run or hide, that's why they are standing still surrounded by people whilst they slay. Its also why there isn't a patch of cover you can stick to for health regen/blind firing purposes.
Now, I'll admit, one reason I'm hoping it takes off is the possibility of a later sequel, with four person co-op and maybe some other unit representation...but Space marine looks good, hope the game is fun and does good box office, so to speak.
also i'm really cumming to this video as someone who knows the lore of Warhammer super religiously, let me tell you this is looking great.
now... if they get the story right and you fight tyranids, this will be my game of the century.
SUFFER NOT THE HERETIC TO LIVE
My only concern is the actual firefight sequeces in the video seemed pretty dull. Yeah, Space Marines are Tough-as-Nails, Acid-Spitting [bet THAT won't be in the game :'( ], Kick-Ass machines, but if you can just stand there and soak up bullets then what's the point? There's bad-ass PCs, and then theres Incredibly easy, tedious shooters.
That and he's an Ultramarine. Ultramarines are dicks. FOR SANGUINIUS!
And for the sake of joy and my excitement:
game looks sick, have not been a fan of Warhammer since only a few years ago but love the DoW games on the PC.
Also, cocks.
Hm.
I'll have to think about this...
