First look: Resident Evil: Degeneration photo

Resident Evil: Degeneration is an all CG film set for a straight-to-DVD release in Japan sometime in 2008. Details of the film's contents remain unknown beyond the scant bits of information derivable from these screens. For starters, the film is apparently set seven years after the destruction of Raccoon City in 1998. And it appears to feature two of the series' most popular characters, Claire Redfield and Leon S Kennedy.

But wait -- during 2004, the time Resident Evil 4 took place, wasn't Leon a special agent for the President? If so, why is it that in this movie he's dressed in his old Raccoon Police Department jumpsuit? Did Leon have another tryst with zombie genocide in or around Raccoon City one year after being hired, trained, and sent overseas to wage bloody destruction upon scores of brainwashed Spaniards?

Potential continuity errors aside, I'm hoping this film is a good one. I know it can't be worse than Resident Evil's previously released forgettable foray into CG movie land.

They basically shit all over it with RE4 anyway.

Seriously, I'd watch it. You're right, it can't be worse than any live action RE they've made. Plus, it's probably made in Japan, so you know it's gonna be better than the crap we've gotten.

How is RE4 screwing up the timeline? I don't get it. Did I miss something betweet Re3 and 4? The game takes place years later, what's wrong with it? They moved in a new direction. Somebody tell me if I'm wrong though, and please explain what I'm missing?

I have to agree with DGX Goggles.

...That doesn't look like Leon's RPD uniform.

Actually, in fact, after looking at all the shots...all we see him in is his bomber jacket.

That is unless you're assuming that the shot with some random cop with "POLICE" on his back, and wearing a helmet, is Leon.

Well, this is sure to be better than the Hollywood movies, right?

This is what video game movies should be - CG vids made in the same style as the cut-scenes in the _video_games_. These things fail when they get too close to the Hollywood formula (look at Spirits Within), because it's a totally different medium. Hopefully this is as good Advent Children...

MMMM...I hate when I get chills over things like this, but so far, I'm loving what they have to show. Its not much, but the fact that Leon has his RE4 suit. Wow, it just makes me very very happy in a strange fanboy way.

So the good news is, it looks like RE's continuity is again made safe. The bad news is, I suck.

Meh, why would this be good? Without the gameplay, this Resident Evil will basically be one long cutscene. And does anyone think the cutscenes in RE are that great to begin with?

Um, it actually looks like Leon is in his RE4 get-up. Cause if it was his RE2 get-up, then that one picture would have RPD on his back, but it doesn't. He is just dirty and the lighting makes it look simliar.

Actually, there is no continuity mistake. Resident Evil 4 happens six years after the incident at Raccon City, which happens in the last days of September, 1998. The prologue or RE4 itself clarifies: "Six years have passed since that horrendous incident". Since the pics state that Degeneration happens seven years after Raccoon City, its safe to assume that this movie happens after the events of RE4.

Yes, while the RE storyline is plagued with retcons, it is somewhat decently unified in Umbrella Chronicles. While the gap between Code Veronica and Umbrella´s End chapter in RE:UC is considerable (4 years), said chapter explains the way Wesker is portrayed in RE4.

Anyway... can´t wait for this movie!!
