[Update: Don't like the look of Mega Man in the above video? It looks like 1UP and GameSpot also got their hands on exclusive Mega Man Universe trailers. They're all kind of the same, but not really... they each feature a different looking Mega Man. Can you spot the difference and figure out which Mega Man is from which series of games?
Thanks to the beautiful Russ Frushtick from MTV Multiplayer for the heads up.]
You know that weird-ass (and totally awesome) Mega Man Universe trailer Capcom revealed awhile back? Yeah, that didn't tell us too much about the game. With this latest trailer, Capcom's Keiji Inafune hopes to shed some light on what we can expect. It's mostly successfully, but questions remain.
The gameplay in the trailer shows what appears to be a 2D-style platform/action game in the vain of classic Mega Man titles, but rendered with 3D graphics. Mega Man himself has a longer, slinkier look, but his abilities appear intact. The trailer ends with another tease, confirming that players will also be able to play as Street Fighter's Ryu.
"Your world," shouts Inafune in Japanese. "Megafied!"
Okay then. Mega Man Universe will be making some sort of appearance at PAX this weekend, so we hope to get more information soon. What do you think of what you've seen so far (including the fact that Inafune is wearing an Abercrombie and Fitch shirt)?
Awww... I was actually hoping that Ryu would be a robot master, and you would have to defeat him to get the ability to turn into Ryu-Megaman. And I'll always prefer the sprite-based Mega Man... but hey! They've got a cool concept, so I'm still hoping for the best, 3D be damned!
I can't help but think that I'd like to see Capcom try something different with the Mega Man gameplay other than just putting new characters in it. Between all the classic games, the Mega Man X series, the gameboy games, Mega Man 9 & 10, I've played this kind of game a lot.
I know Mega Man Legends wasn't a big hit for them, but atleast they were trying something different with that series.
Well, ground breaking it ain't (i still stand by my claim that it's Capcom's HD version of Wai Wai World 2) but i'm willing to give it a chance at least, that said, not really impressed so far.
Damn we got totally cock-blocked of Ryu footage but this looks pretty cool, I'll probably get it. They should've done this after Mega Man 9 instead of releasing another 8-bit game if you ask me.
/Geez it's just a little gameplay vid..give it time it might grow on you
and if you want the sprite based mega man then go play the old games then...geez I think it look alright...there could be more to it than meets the eye...

Also, it looks like a game made for people who are "too good" for old school graphics.

But it does seem like you will be able to create your own Mega Man levels.
So awesome...love those guys.
As for the game footage itself...kind of on the fence about it. It looks...awkward.

If there's some from Dino Crisis, Dead Rising, or Resident Evil im sold
Anywho, I think, other than the character model being totally ridiculous, that this looks just like every other Megaman. So.
It reminds me of Powered Up, but he's too tall.
You're thinking of Rockman Online.
