We here at Destructoid are jazzed about 3D Dot Game Heroes. We were hoping for a localization when we first heard of it, and Atlus came through for us. They also came through today with the first batch of localized screenshots today.
I'm glad to see that they're hard at work on the game, which is still set for a May 11th release on the PS3 for $39.99. Part of the game they've kind of put together for us is to have people guess what other games are being parodied in the screenshots they send along. While this pixel-ish action/adventure has its own story, it plays on games of gaming past, so well-versed gamers are supposed to get a kick out of the script.
Whether you get the references or not, this game looks fantastic. Retro gaming fan or not, I'd think just about anyone would by into this game's distinct style. Of course, most of us here at Destructoid were sold already.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I lol'ed and then came at the screenshots.
I'll try anything though.
(I'm still trying to pretend that Killzone wasn't on that list...)
I see what you did there, with the whole Dick thing. I didn't realize we were in the first grade again. Thanks.
And no, I care what Jim Sterling says about this or any game (though I find him hilarious). Killzone 2 is the most boring and overrated shooter I've played in years. And as the first game I bought for my PS3, it's also the biggest disappointment I've experienced in a long time. If GameStop would give me more than $12 for it (they won't) I'd take it back today and buy something better.
You know, like Haze.
"You might not know this, but the Flame Temple is full of raging fire!"
"Yeargh! It hurts! But... you must touch the sage inside of me."
So, to NOT go "the humor route" would be against Atlus' trademark, the fact that they very faithfully reproduce the original work here while only changing the bare minimum of things.
...YIKES. Don't want to get on your bad side.
Why are you so defensive about it? Its' just an opinion, dude!
Sorry to make another post, but hey, if you don't want it, consider eBay! If you posted it, I know I'd spend at least $20.
Hey guess what, not everyone has the same opinion as you, imagine that. I didn't like KZ2 either, and I was hyped for it, and it let me down with it's glitchy cover system and boring generic shooter mechanics. All it had going for it was pretty graphics. But I also don't like most console FPS's in general mostly because none of them have innovated the genre enough, most just take idea's from old good pc FPS's and consolize the shit out of them and pretend like they are new idea's because most of the 360 and PS3 FPS monkey's have never played a PC FPS in their life.
I got $20 for it at my gamestop lol
Just another day on Destructoid!
Though Demons' Souls reference for some sort of win.
ON TOPIC
I am getting this madness day one. We just (re)got a DS and my wife has just played through every single Zelda game for it and the GBA, and I just finished Darksiders. I'm for sure in that Zelda mood, and this game looks brilliantly hilarious.
I can't wait to see how cool it looks in motion.
Right, I make a rational response to your irrational comment and you rebuttal by calling your girlfriend's brother a piece of shit retard, I love you internet.
Whatever I guess, I'm still holding out for FES. Does anyone know whats going on with that game, because I want it like I want to have sex for the first time.
Maybe it's to mock the fact that bodies of water in many graphical-intensive games tends to be wonderfully clear and shiny, even if in reality a lake's water should be pretty murky. :P
honestly i dont see any video game parodies in those pics, other than zelda of course
I thought 4th was Bomberman, but w/e. o.O
I've gotten three of these. I don't deserve to buy this game, but I will do anyway.
