First info on Assassin's Creed 2 glides on to the net photo

It looks like our friends over at ScrewAttack's Hard News have gotten their hands on the latest issue of Game Informer a little early. You know, the one with Assassin's Creed 2 on the cover?

Knowing how excited we were about the game, they were nice enough to pass along some key information on Ubisoft's game from the Game Informer cover story. OK, OK... they pretty much passed along all of the info. The key details are that the game will take place in Italy, as expected, with locations like Saint Marks Basilica and The Grand Canal included. Players play the role of Ezio Auditore de Firenze, a nobleman of Florence who can wield an axe, a hammer, a mace, and a spear, among other instruments of death. Oh, and he can also glide using DaVinci's flying machine

If you want more information on Assassin's Creed 2, you can find it after the jump. But be warned that it's potentially "spoiler" heavy. We'd also recommend that you pick up the magazine when it hit shelves this month; we're sure the folks at Game Informer busted their asses to put together a killer article that's certainly more engaging than the list you'll find after break. Oh, and pretty pictures... lots of them.

- You'll have a ton of new weapons to choose from including an axe, a hammer, a mace, a spear, 2 different sword types, a spear axe, and 2 smaller blades
- You CAN swim
- Da Vincis workshop is in the game
- Locations include Saint Marks Basilica, The Grand Canal, The Little Canal, and the Rialto bridge.
- The game opens in 1476, Altair is from 1191
- So you do indeed play as a new ancestor of Altair / Desmond
-You will see the countryside of Tuscany
- The "Auditore" family is mentioned
- The main characters name is Ezio Auditore de Firenze
- He is a nobleman of Florence
- Big characters are in the game including Machiavelli, Caterina Sofrza, and Lorenzo de Medici
- YOU DO INDEED GLIDE on Da Vincis flying machine.
- Game will feature a new notoriety system that governs how enemy soldiers and people will treat you.
- You can disarm enemies and use their own weapons against them this time.
- Each weapon has a special move.
- 16 unique mission types.
- No more ease dropping or pick pocketing missions.
- If you get beat up to much you will need to see a street side doctor to regain full strength.
- Hidden objects (like flags in the first one) are there to uncover but this time if you track them down you will get in-game bonuses that make it worth your time.
- Items include, flags, statues, and gold coins and more that isnt mentioned.
- New enemy types with unique attitudes and weaknesses are present in the game. Archers are mentioned, as well as elite enemies, dagger wielders, "Brutish" armored troops with heavy armor and 2 handed swords and axes, and an intelligent halberd enemy will probe hiding places with their weapons if they think you're near by.
- While hiding in a hay bail you can assassinate people this time, but it may expose your position.
- You can still climb towers and ride horses
- The Lorendo de Medici assassination attempt is in the game.
- There is now a night and day sequence in the game.
- 240 people are working on this title.

"The Lorenzo de Medici assassination attempt is in the game."

YES! I can't wait to play this. I've studied Italian language, literature, and history, and that story is bad ass enough on its own, I can't wait to see how they incorporate it into a game. I hope there will be a lot of speech in Italian too.

Really excited for the setting and time period. Haven't been this excited about a game in a long, long time :) :) :)

Wow! This is an incredible list of news! The only thing that that isn't mentioned is a set of randomly generated situations to continue replayability even after the game is finished.

Considering that I still loved the first game despite its many flaws, this game is definitely a must-buy for me (and likely this newest issue of GI, too)!

Wow, they really learned from their mistakes and then some. Although, they're assholes for bringing back the only thing that bothered me from the first one, the flag collectathon bullshit (or so it seems). Oh well, I'll probably buy this game at launch regardless.

Seems like they're actually going out to improve the last game with the several faults it had, and make this one better. How unheard of.

In all seriousness, this does sound good, I'm hoping they keep true to making all of these improvements.

Its interesting that the character is from Florence, the canals of Venice are mentioned, and the countryside of Tuscany will be playable.

Call me crazy but that is a big geographic disparity. Sure Florence is in Tuscany, but Venice is no where near them...

Well I wasn't the biggest fan of the original, so much wasted potential, but this actually sounds pretty impressive. Be keeping an eye on this for sure.

Also, please Ubisoft, when you make a Colosseum level in Rome... just don't mess it up.

Batman with added Pizza?
So far this isn't really capturing the spirit of the word 'Assassin' for me like the old game did, and the only really new things on this list gameplay wise are swimming and flying. And one of those sounds silly.
Still, I maintain an open mind since the first game had epic promise. And I do like pizza.

I really loved the original Ass Creed for it's unique setting and and middle eastern feel. It was so fresh. I think this sequel could be just as fresh, but I liked Altair :(

Also, I want the little finger stabby thing. That has to stay.

Ah well, everything else sounds great.

When I played the first couple of hours of Assassins Creed I thought it was the best game i'd played in a long time.. then that feeling slowly fell into an intense hatred of the game...

I was a hater of the first game. But my girlfriend loved it; doing the same missions over and over again was apparrently engaging. I really don't understand that, which is why i'm eager to give this sequel a try and hope they capture that feeling I had while first playing the game for the entire duration this time..

I didn't care much for AC1 after the first city, but this stuff makes me want it. That part of Italian history has some amaaaazing stuff in it! And if your character comes from Florence and the whole Medici/Tuscany war and political strife period is included: DO WANT!

I've always wanted a giant epic battle movie about that time period, but this will have to do in the meantime :)

I'm pretty stoked about this deal... whatever some people may say, Ubi is still king on runing slash climbing type games, and it seems like this is certainly stepping in a good direction to break up the monotony of the first one. 1470's Florence, possibly the most intrigue-o-licious city since the fall of Rome, is a fantastic setting for this, and I hope they open up more possibilities as far as multiple assassination avenues and escape routes as well as these mentioned changes - I never managed to get through the first AC but number 2's looking like a buy now!
