First images of Super Mario Collection appear photo

Celebrating today's 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., Nintendo has released the first images of Super Mario Collection for Wii. A reproduction of the Super Famicom Super Mario Collection (released in the US as Super Mario All-Stars), this collector's box only available in Japan comes with a booklet featuring never-before-seen artwork from the series and a soundtrack CD and releases October 21st.

It's hard for me to get excited about a thing which I never expect to get when it's really something I already bought over a decade ago.

I agree with you. A real, comprehensive Mario collection would be welcome, but the likelihood of that is about zero.

Wow, that's a cool box. As the mario freak I am, I really want this right now. On the screens it does look completely unaltered from the SNES version and that's a bit of a shame. Also it would have been nice if they included Super Mario World in this.

As it's only 2500 yen, I'm going to buy this for sure!

Umm... somewhat obvious question, but why is this not on DS? It would be perfect for DS!

I heard that this was just a bunch of download codes to get all the Mario games off of Virtual Console.

Happy Birthday Super Mario Bros. I was 5 when you came out. Perfect timing.

@mrplow8 - You heard wrong. Look at the screens - those are the enhanced ports of what appeared on the NDS. Super Mario 2 (USA) and SMB 3 from that collection also later appeared on the GBA with the same updated look.

The Virtual Console games are just the NES games, no updated graphics.

This would have been a million times better if it had Mario 1-3 NES, Mario All-Stars + Mario World, Yoshi's Island, and Mario 64 and priced it at $50-60. And if that's overkill, it doesn't NEED to have Yoshi's Island and Mario 64. This is such a lame collection because the remake of Super Mario Bros. is so poor. The remixed music sounds like ass and the physics are all screwed up.

Try telling that to everybody who re-bought the originals on Virtual Console.

The most gigantic BEH of all time.

VC All Stars and SMW2, Nintendo! Jeez. It's like they're purposely just waiting for Christmas to release a good VC game again.

The history and Soundtrack are all I care about. The games aren't upgraded past the All-Stars version and I'm perfectly fine with the NES releases on Virtual console. It's also strange that they didn't include Super Mario World on this, but whatever.

Why does it look like Bowser is admiring and touching Peach's hair?

...Foreboding...

@Master Snake

Well he certainly hasn't just been kidnapping her all these years for the fun of it.

This is silly; to think we were naive enough to think NSMB style updates for each individual game.

*sigh* I expected better of Nintendo. If they're going to release cheap and quick ports, can't I have a Metroid collection for DS?

Why the heck isnt world at least in this?

They managed to fit it onto the mario collection for the snes but years latter not the one for the wii?

Imo this game is missing world 1 AND 2 as well as a couple other classic historical mario games like the original arcade donkey kongs and the original arcade mario bros all of which are really important in marios history!

THEN it would be a reall classic historical collection of mario not just a snes game on a wii disc!

Some of you guys may not be excited for this, but any compillation game is good in my book because the alternative would be selling each game individually for 5-10 dollars

@IIort het

Idk about that, your saying if they put all stars on the VC they would split it up into 3 different games?

I can't see Ninty doing that, if this was on the VC it would most likely be the standard snes price 800 pts because thats all its really worth to be honest.

this is just a rom of super mario all stars it doesn't even include world. if there is one thing I've always hated about nintendo it's their love of repackaging old titles over and over and over. . . at least the book looks cool

Cool box. Thats about it though. This is about as half-assed as it gets. Could they have at least thrown in the Gameboy games? They aren't trying to sell those to us again... yet.

I'm not going to lie; I fucking want this. The art book and soundtrack are enough to buy it. Plus I don't have my copy of All-stars anymore.
The games aren't the actual draw here.

I'd get this if it had Super Mario World (like the SNES packed-in carts had) and Super Mario World 2 on it...

The packed-in carts were more rare, but CHEAPER than the Mario All-Stars stand-alone carts when Funcoland had them...Super Mario All-Stars was $24.99, but the All-Stars + World carts were only $14.99...packed-in games are always cheaper since everyone trades them in. SO glad I snagged that back in the day...

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Why aren't the beyond amazing e-Reader levels from Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 included?! Those levels have to be the holy grail of Super Mario Bros. games.
