Revoke my gamer's club membership and kick me out the clubhouse because I have never played a Pokémon game other than Pokémon Snap. This being said, even I can tell from these new images taken from Japanese mag CoroCoro of the upcoming Pokémon Black and Pokémon White that for the first time in a long time the games have gone through a major overhaul visually.
The article appears to be light on details and focuses mainly on the game's new and improved 3D look. No, that doesn't mean that you're going to be playing this on the 3DS, but that there is actually some depth to the overworld and battle screens now. Only took the series over a decade, right?
What do we think? Do the new graphics signal a redesign of some sort for the franchise's gameplay or is Nintendo just sprucing up the images simply to make the games look prettier?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Now, if they now make the story a little more deep!
Oh and the new style's cool too I guess
buying white on day one.
P.S: I'm totally making them play all versions just to make sure they will be bored before the current version in their day and to make sure they won't be talking about their "Necktatsu" the 3rd evolution of Girafarig (which is totally girafariG backwards).
what are you an idiot
Everyone knows once you go black you never go back :P
Unfortunately, me too. I just f*cking love pokemon. =(
Lol joke
Who wants to put some money on this!
What better way to:
A) encourage 3DS sales
B) not effect new Pokęmon sales
than to just release a game that works fine on a DS, but has neato 3DS features?
With the money behind this you would think they could hire a decent SFX artist :P
The only thing, however, that I really want is a quicker way of importing my older pokemon. I have a legit pokedex that is starting to get close to being full, and I am already becoming tired of transfering my Platinum pokemon over to Heart Gold. It is going to take bloody hours to transfer all of them over to Black again.
I hope they speed up the battle gameplay. Aside from that they really need to shake up the RPG formula. I don't want to fight my way through another 8 gyms, Pokemon League and another gang that wants to do evil - for almost no reason.
*Ba-dum tish*
This looks exactly the same as Diamond, Pearl, Platnium, HeartGold and SoulSilver!
If they're gonna do big wide 3-D graphic things, just put it on the Wii!
About this game, I don't know what to say really. I've never played a Pokémon game to the end, but I want to get SoulSilver/HeartGold to try it out.
But with the announment of this ALL NEW generation; I rather wait a little longer... so yeah, I'm interested in play Pokémon game... man, I feel dirty. xDD
Still, I just can't buy myself a DS - i simply don't want to get sucked into it once again.
It's like fucking cocaine.
what irks me is that pokemon is a concept that could easily be adapted to an older audience (for instance, ash is a space marine, and pikachu is a rocket launcher), but they always aim for kids and fill it with vapid cutesy bullshit.
PFFT! Hahaahahaha! Sorry, but changing Pokemon like that is as ridiculous as making Mickey Mouse look like a sewer rat under the supervision of Disney. And not even Epic Mickey is going there.
Pokemon is already Nintendo's most richening franchise especially designed for the love of kids, girls, women, teenagers. and young adults. They are not doing such thing because they don't need to.
However if they change enough stuff, like a new battle dynamic, give it an ACTUAL story, some different objectives/sidequests, I might give it a look.
"However if they change enough stuff, like a new battle dynamic, give it an ACTUAL story, some different objectives/sidequests, I might give it a look."
Come on, you want a STORY in a POKEMON game?
POKEMON ADVENTURE
vs
Ash's mom gets killed by a wild, brand new pokemon, which appears to be controlled by a band of fat guys working at the Barber Shop. Ash meets super-sexay ninja girl, who, in later stages, betray him.
... Dude. For real?
I've always said there should be a Pokemon Black and White immediately after Gold and Silver came out. Not HeartGold and SoulSilver, the original badboys.
And @Skribble Have you not played Ruby/Saphire/Emerald/Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (Can't speak for the next HG or SS)? They have had actual stories, you have set out to become a Pokemon Master and at some point run into a team of criminals intent on capturing a powerful Pokemon for their own sinister plans. That seems decent enough for something being marketed towards anyone from the age of three upwards. If they gave a true story like I presume you want, Nintendo wouldn't be able to sell to their main market.
And they really need to boost the resolution of the overworld sprites, there's just so much difference in quality between the environments and the PC/NPCs.
Shouldn't nintendo shake things up a bit? How about scripted battles in wich X pokemon evolves out of the blue, in mid battle! Or... actual flying? With a world map a la 16bit-RPG. Or... maybe being able to evolve a machoke trough leveling; without trading the little crap? Anything works, just jesus christ don't let me play the same thing again! Argh, I fool myself.
Both commercially and quality-wise. There's never been two generations of Pokémon games in a single console, and there's a good reason for that: the leap in graphical quality and resources should be considerable. And as it stands, it seems to not do enough to set itself apart from D/P/HG/SS. Much like those did too little to set themselves apart from R/S.
Hahahahahahahahahaha!
