First images of Croteam's Serious Engine 3 are all serious and stuff photo

Croatian gaming magazine, GamePlay, has nabbed the first look at Croteam's upcoming Serious Sam 3 and the yet to be named tactical-action shooter. Thanks to space-aged image scanning technology and the kids over at the Serious Sam obsessed Web site, Serious Zone, we can cancel our flights to Dubrovnik.

From what you can see in the scans, Croteam's new Serious Engine 3 is some pretty serious technology. It shows off some seriously impressive photo-realistic environments and seriously emotionally scarring monsters. Whether or not it's going to be seriously worth upgrading a PC to slaughter endless hordes of identical enemies, Serious Sam-style, remains to be seen. Seriously.

Head over to Serious Zone for the scans and translations.

I can't wait to see what the gore looks like in the new engine.

Still the communists I remember.

"DEVELOPED BY CROTEAM IN CROATIA OMFGZ!"

Yes, we know. I don't see Epic Games screaming; "OMFG UNREAL 3 ENGINE IS DEVELOPED IN THE UNITED STATES!"

Nationalistic masturbation aside, that engine kicks ass from those images. Let's hope it's put to good use.

Remember when all shooters used to have images put out for every weapon in the game? Its good to see Croteam is keeping that tradition alive.

Impressive...most impressive.

More hard evidence that PC gaming is the elephant in the room of home consoles, the PC will always be able to outperform the most powerful console, which is why trying to make a home console an expensive PC is missing the point entirely. PS3, I'm talking about you.

I agree, but still, the problem with a PC is that in order to play...well...that orgasm of fun in the above pictures you have to shell out quite a bit of cash in order to update your system to do so. And I can only shell out so much for so long before I just give up and go back to Gears of War and Godhand.

I agree with your agreement, the 360 is a reasonably priced home console but a conservative estimate of £400+ for a PS3 and a game is a joke, add another £100 and I could get a decent PC with all the trimmings.

I remember when Kingpin came out for the PC, my mate had the latest graphics card, TV, surround sound and so on, I went round his place to check it out and I was blown away, I had to return home to a blurry N64 with slow motion Goldeneye multiplayer...but it was still fun. A console presents an entirley different game dynamic, this is it's strength not it's weakness. Sony seem to think that a home console is sitting there going "If only I could be more expensive and just like a high end PC." Yeah, why don't we apply this logic to PC gaming "If only a PC could be cheaper and graphically crapper." It's madness.

My point is that PC gaming and console gaming are two different beasts, Sony have confused themselves with the PS3, they are trying to compete with specialist high end PC hardware for hardcore PC gamers, and they will fail. Consoles are meant to be affordable and fun, at least Microsoft seem to be learning as they go along and making progress and finding that right balance. Sony started off with a great console with the Playstation, and in three generations they have lost the plot.

When I think of Croatia, I think of a nation where the only cars people can afford are 70s era Citroen and Saab vehicles. I think of a nation where goats are acceptable as currency. I think of a country that still considers the Sega Master System to be state-of-the-art.

I do not think these things about America, and neither would anyone reasonable.

(PS- Because it will fly over at least two heads, let me clarify that I am joking about the state of Croatia. However, my point is that it is held in world view as basically a third world country. Such places are not typically expected to make technological achievements beyond making a video editing program that can do both "star swipe" and "curtains.")

I love Croteam. Ever since sitting down and playing the original Serious Sam and hearing the headless bomb guys charge at you I have been a fan. That sound kinda haunts you forever anyway.

I just hope that they go crazy and just release hordes of enemies on you. I don't really want anything challenging out of my serious sam games, just mind numbing action and lots'o'killin.

Loved the first 2.5 games(how would you call the 2nd Encounter?). I am hoping for another fun romp down slaughter lane. Those screens were a little nasty in quality, but you can tell the engine still looks nice.

Well, we do love our goats :) In fact, for a two goats you can get a nice woman to mate with so she can give birth to more workforce. O' Yeah, good times are up in Croatia. :))

Anyway, never been a big fan of FPS but SS was one the rare that I could loose a couple of hours into.

@BlackDove: Some people take pride in their work mate. They also like to market themselves out of the competition by implying they have special circumstances under which they develop the game so people cut them some slack. Hence the "developed in bla bla"

I loved SS1 and the second encounter, number 2 was a little to cartooney and wasn't nearly as fun as the first 2 games. Never played the console versions. This one looks to return the games to their roots, looks like crysis might have a rival in the graphics department.

Exactly my point neshill.

That's a communist trait (which was glorified by them - speaking my native tongue has its benefits when I re-watch the old Yugoslavian public service announcements, the amount of "communist spirit" makes me laugh hard), to attribute your own work to your country, because the conditions are so swell that it's just raining talent.

And it's a piece of shit argument. The reason why it's such a big deal is BECAUSE they've fought terrifying adversity on a plateau of a non-existing market. That's why there is only one developer in Croatia, who aren't even famous, just pseudo-famous.

Which is why it's such a terrifying shame when they exclaim "MADE IN CROATIA!". All you're doing is reminding the people (who have a brain) that you live in a second rate country that 8 out of 10 people never heard of. It's pretty evident that you're not proud of it because the conditions are so good, considering all of the other countries (especially USA) don't even care to mention where they're from when they create entertainment, but instead are doing so because the country you live in is so shitty, to create an insignificant thing such as a game engine is a national feat.

Go, go my old Commie pride.
