First images from Soul Calibur IV (update) photo
     Fighting Games

As promised, Electronic Gaming Monthly managed to get a first look at Soul Calibur IV, and here are the scans from the magazine. The level of detail in the graphics includes "leather straps on Ivy's thighs make real-time indentations into her skin as she fights," and even "ridiculously endowed ninja gal Taki, who demonstrates what happens now that consoles can chum out superflucous polygons to render realistic nipples under a skintight leotard."

In my opinion, Soul Calibur I is the best 3D fighting game ever released, and after two dull sequels, this one seems to bring a fresh breeze into the series. You can check out the other impressive in-game scans below.

[Update: No one listens to me around here, but they do listen to lawyers. The images have been removed at the request of Ziff-Davis. They can be seen in the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, which I highly recommend you go out and buy, because -- come closer, I have a secret -- print is not dead. -Nick]

how does it seem to bring something fresh to the series? I mean, the two sequels were great, and this one so far has only announced prettier graphics. nothing fresh there

Looks very predictable and dull, 3D fighters are so boring, improving what already makes them boring only makes them an improved version of boring.

I feel sorry for the poor bastard artists who have to work on this, Taki & Ivy's tits must be their only way of making this paint by numbers job tolerable.

Finally, with Talim's realistic appearance, we'll all be registered sex offenders for keeping lolicon porn around the house with this game.

And I see that they have still not released any pictures of Voldo, Raphael, Maxi or Kilik. How could this game possibly attempt to cater to the LGBT/fetish crowd without showing them some of this fancy HD Soul Calibur. Raphael's a chick, right?

BTW, I have to go to the doctor later today because my soul still burns 3 years after the last time I played Soul Calibur. I got really worried about it last night when there was blood in my pee.

Looks sloppy and pixelated to me, but it might just be the quality of the scans. Hopefully seeing it in action will make it look a lot better.

Game looks lush. As do Ivy's massive tits.

I've also not bothered with any of these since the superb DC version.

@relik

I stopped at SCII, which had the same feel as SCI. SCIII was poopy to me, and where I think they really lost touch on what made the game good (simple gameplay, tight controls, and fluid animations - not graffix, forgettable characters and the create-a-worthless-doll feature)

I think Destructoid needs to add a new scale to it's review process.

So there'd be:

Graphics 0-10
Sound 0-10
Gameplay 0-10
Replay Value 0-10
Tits and Ass Content 0-10

A high TnA value greater than 8 automatically increases the overall score by a full star.

@DV8

I concur. T&A is greatly undervalued in video games.
I say that instead of a star, we vote to add a bonus tentacle to game ratings, so that way, you can ID shitty games solely based on the *fap*-factor.

Example for a 1 out of 5:
"I wouldn't have wasted money on Sexy Beach 3, but I sure enjoyed knowing that the bewbs were easily accesible in the game in case I needed them. Too bad it's the same game as Sexy Beach 2." - Fake Rev Anthony review

Soul Calibur, along with GTA, has officially entered the Uncanny Valley.

With so many next gen games these days, I feel like Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park, with his "Your scientists were so busy figuring out if they could do this, they didn't take the time to think about if they should" line.

The T&A looks good though.

Tron Knotts:

That may be so, but just wait to see the game in motion for your final judgment. Hopefully SCIV won't go the way of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, but it's always a possibility.

I dunno about you guys, but I rather enjoyed SCIII. Where else could you make Jesus duke it out with Sigfried?

The only uncanny valley I see this game approaching is the one between Ivy's jug-a-lugs!

Personally, I'll be whackin off to these screenies tonight. Please feel free to join me.
