Although Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver were confirmed a few days earlier than expected, Japan's Poké-centric television program Pokémon Sunday continued the festivities surrounding the big announcement earlier today. They did so by showing off a few bits of the new artwork for the three starter Pokémon and about 15 seconds' worth of gameplay. It's not much of anything at all, to be honest. It seems as if the Diamond/Pearl look is intact, making everything in the Johto region big, colorful, and pretty. But besides a glimpse of how the game will look, there really isn't much to be gained from the footage... except for a curious little creature following the player around in it.
Whether or not your starter in Heart Gold/Soul Silver will always follow you a-la Pokémon Yellow's Pikachu remains unknown, but that thing does look an awful lot like a Chikorita. It is very cute and evokes good memories of Yellow, but is it anything to really get excited about? Personally, I think I could pass on the concept, but it'd be great if you could choose which of your Pokémon to have follow you around, as I normally switch out my starter for another monster not too far into the game. More than anything, it just makes me very excited about what other elements they may be bringing back from older titles for these remakes.

I need a new DS for this NOW
Why in God's name can't I remember who the sixth member of my team was?! /random
um remember Firered and LeafGreen?
Also, I need a DS like naow to be able to play this. My first pokemans game in years seems to have arrived.
I'm not going to lie, the thought of my starter following around makes me so happy. I always wanted it to be like that, and I loved Yellow for it. And my starters NEVER leave my party. BLASTOISE FOREVER!
This, except Charizard.
Ah, that Yellow screenshot brings back so many memories.
Actually I didnt. Thanks! I may have to play those now...
I mean, I'm so ready for this game, and I haven't played a pokemon game since, well, Silver. Why this game? Why do we want it so badly?
Probably a combination of nostalgia, and the fact that the sequel just trumped the original in so many ways. And also that G/S is the only one that hasn't been remade yet, which also means that the Pokemon exclusively featured in those two games are the hardest to come by these days without the use of cheat devices.
But definitely a lot of nostalgia. Rivers upon rivers of sweet, awesome childhood nostalgia.
And i for one gave a big deal about FR/LG.
What would be interesting is to know what new fans think, i mean the ones who are hooked on D/P/P, i wonder if they are as psyched as us old timers. Probably not.
Just to confirm, does anyones copy of Gold or Silver work anymore, or have they all broken because of that clock? If there's any remake that's necessary, it would be this game.
What I would very much like to see is:
*The Kanto safari open this time
*The seafoam islands accessible
*All 1st gen legendary pokemon catchable
*All in all, a fully fleshed out Kanto region with as much as there was to do in R/B/Y. I found myself hopping from town to town stomping on each gym leader with only a few minutes in between at some stages.
This was undoubtedly was my favorite generation, brings back so many awesome memories. Oh, and for the record: DO FUCKING WANT.
*excited!*
As long as its a lot like G/S/C was, like allowing you to go back to Kanto as well as Johto, or possibly go to regions other than the two, then I am definitely getting this.
Just give me it now =[
I see where you're comin' from. I got tired of my Chimchar in Diamond reeeeeally fast. I wound up replacing him with a Shinx, and found myself liking Luxray more then any other Pokemon in the D/P era.
That said, if I hear that the game contains even five new Pokemon, I'm totally buying it.
Please, no more pokemon, I still don't know the names of all the current pokemon, and I've been playing since the very beginning, I will be getting this though
@Ashley: That would sound like a neat challenge to do, at least if the games every allowed you to have more than one save file. Which they never will. >\
@Holmes: It's not about the 'mons, man! It's about the experience. Getting your ass handed to you at the very first gym because you think Normal is weak, having a rival who actually is not your friend, and of course, seeing all of the changes in Kanto when you come back. It was probably the definitive Pokemon game for tons of people, and it being remade is a truly amazing thing. =P
For me, anyway.
