Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

G4 has received exclusive in game footage of what the new Ghostbusters game will look like. In the video, you watch as a Ghostbuster tortures Slimer and tries to capture various other ghosts. We also see what looks like will be an epic boss battle with the Stay Puft Marshmallow. Pay attention to the physics as all the chairs, tables and other things around the rooms get flung around when the energy beam hits them. The game is farther along then what I'm sure many of us have believed.

GoNintendo has also gotten hold of the press release (read it after the jump) for Ghostbusters which reveals a lot more information on the game. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson are all set to lend their likeness and voices to the game. Dan and Harold are also working on the storyline for the game which takes place shortly after the events of the second movie. The biggest surprise out of the press release is that you are going to be playing as a new recruit and not as one of the famous four Ghostbusters.

The game is set to come out fall of 2008 and will be for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2 and Nintendo DS.

Reading, uk (16th November, 2007) – Sierra Entertainment, a division of Vivendi Games, announced today development of Ghostbusters™ The Video Game, based on the classic films that have transcended and entertained generations of audiences. To deliver a special gaming experience to the tremendous Ghostbusters' fan base around the world, the game will feature the original film cast from the classic Ghostbusters films, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, back again for the first time in more than 20 years. Supporting the ghost busting crew are the talents of Annie Potts, Brian Doyle Murray and William Atherton. Equipped with a variety of unique weapons and gadgets, players will hunt, fight and capture a wide range of supernatural villains in a funny and frightening battle to save New York City from its latest paranormal plague.

Ghostbusters The Video Game, is expected to ship fall 2008.

"Sierra Entertainment is extremely excited to not only deliver fans, old and new, this next chapter in the Ghostbusters universe, but to allow them inside the universe for the first time," said Martin Tremblay, president, Worldwide Studios for Sierra Entertainment. "Our collaboration alongside Terminal Reality and Red Fly Studios also includes working closely with the team at Sony Pictures Consumer Products. Together we will create the ultimate Ghostbusters experience, full of the characters, ghosts and other paranormal creatures so many have come to adore over the years."

"Ghostbusters is one of Sony Picture's most valued film franchises," said Mark Caplan, vice president, Hardlines for Sony Pictures Consumer Products. "In setting out to develop a game, our criterion was to find a game company who was interested in keeping true to the Ghostbusters world that talent and filmmakers had originally created. The team at Sierra Entertainment took the time to prove to us they had what it takes. From the moment we green-lit the game, we have certainly seen a lot of passion and commitment coming from Sierra Entertainment and both development teams. Fans are going to be impressed with the game's ability to deliver a very authentic Ghostbusters experience, as well as its capacity to blow out the Ghostbusters universe to new heights."

Like the films before it, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis will return to scribe the script and event-driven storyline for the video game that will lead the player through the trials and tribulations of the world's leading paranormal ghost busting team. Ghostbusters The Video Game will create a totally unique experience and gameplay environment that authentically recreates the whimsical time period of the film, expanding the lore and supernatural events that seemingly plague New York City.

About the Game
When Manhattan is once again overrun by ghosts and other supernatural creatures, players will take on the role of a new recruit joining the famous Ghostbusters team. Developed by acclaimed studio Terminal Reality, Ghostbusters The Video Game will make its debut on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC and Red Fly Studios will develop the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ versions of this seminal entertainment brand.

Looking at it again, I think this is the perfect game for the SIXAXIS controller when you're trying to capture the ghosts. Kind of like how Folklore is more enjoyable with the pull mechanic.

Looks pretty awesome, but for some reason I could see this game going one way or the other. It'll be essential that they evoke the same sort of comedic atmosphere from the Ghostbusters movies. Also, more Bill Murray plz.

@ Topher Cantler

Slimer was sort of a "bad guy" in the Ghostbusters movie. He wasn't their friend like he was in the cartoon. This game looks like it's either based off of the original Ghostbusters movie and they did go after Slimer in the movie in a hotel just like the one shown in the gameplay footage.

The game looks pretty awesome though, brings back a lot of good memories, heh. I loved Ghostbusters growing up.

Ghostbusters 2 wasn't more than 20 years ago, or did I just get drunk and forget the date?

They still have the orange-y box though, so they should be easy to locate.

The game looks amazing graphically. I just hope it doesn't get too repetitive. From that footage, it seems that you're using the same methods a bit too often.

Here's hoping that it turns out awesome.

G4 quite possible has the absolute worst streaming video that I can image. I can go to gametrailers and stream an HD trailers faster than this trailer. It took me about 3 minutes of waiting for me to be able to watch the video.

Can we avoid G4 embeds from now on? They seriously really suck balls.

Despite the fact that these were mostly scenes lifted straight from the movie (please let there be an original story to this and not just be a direct movie-to-game translation), that looked pretty cool.

Also, for those wondering about Slimer, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man himself was a good guy in the cartoon as well.

Says Wikipedia:

The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man also appears in the animated series The Real Ghostbusters. In the cartoon series, the Ghostbusters used the residual molten marshmallow to create their own Stay Puft Man. They charge it with positive kinetic energy in order to make him good, and they keep him in the Containment Unit because he is too big to fit in the firehouse. Mr. Stay Puft soon became an ally to the team, helping the Ghostbusters defeat enemies too powerful to fight on their own. The character was voiced by John Stocker, and later by Frank Welker.

The only episode I remember is the one where they sent Slimer into the containment unit to bring out the big guy to kick some other ghost's ass, a giant praying mantis to be exact, but there I'm pretty sure he was released in others as well.
