Unfortunately, this is not the first footage of an upcoming F-Zero title for the Wii. Actually, let me go ahead and rephrase that: Fortunately, this is not the first footage of an upcoming F-Zero title for the Wii. What you're looking at is MTV Multiplayer's exclusive gameplay footage of Sidhe Interactive's Speed Racer title for the Wii, available on May 6 to coincide with the film's release.
So where do we start with this? Well, I think they said it best on the MTV Multiplayer blog: "take a look at Speed Racer yourself and see what you think of the very first gameplay video." I applaud their professionalism. We're allowed to say that the game -- solely based on the video -- looks fast but boring, and the voice acting is atrocious. But hey, it takes advantage of the Wii Wheel, so it could be fun ... right?
Regardless of the game's quality (I certainly hope it's good), this game will sell enough units to justify its release. The Speed Racer hype-machine is already in full effect, with my ten-year-old son asking me -- I swear to God -- if Speed Racer was "a cartoon or something," before demanding I take him to see it when the film hits theaters because it looks "totally sweet." Kids these days ...
Is that what they are doing to speed racer? Making it all futuristic?
The movie better not be like that..I want a big ass race raging through the mountains to the woods.

that game looks fucking terrible. everything about that trailer makes the game look boring as hell. It is slow, the sound is terrible, and the voice acting is horrendous. and its not just an occasional voice thing here or there, the computer players are constantly bombarding you with tacky lines.
If this is the best the game has to offer, somebody fucked up big time. I would hope for the best but I would bet that this game gets shitty reviews, from destructoid at least.
Not lazy, I had a lot of (serious) personal issues come up. Also, the "roundtable" with Ron didn't go quite as smooth as I had hoped. I believe I will be posting it in my Cblog shortly.
For the record, I only missed one day of GTA IV week. :(
I think we've all forgotten that the voice acting in the Speed Racer cartoon was that horrible. However the lack of any of the Mach 5's special functions make me give this the thumbs down, big time. No jumpy things from under the car? No saw blades? No glider wings? NOTHING? Bother that nonsense.
This looks pretty fun, but the only racing games I play are F-Zero, so of course it would appeal to me. I do hope there are other tracks other than "sky", but I'm sure there will be. The voice acting sounded dumb, but I liked how a picture of the character speaking pops up like a comic book.
I hope the framerate of that video was much lower than that of the actual game (due to compression or network speed or whatever.) Still wouldn't fix the lack of music or blaaaaaah track design, but it'd be something anyway.
I had this game on my radar, but it's fallen off now.
Not calling you lazy, I know priorities are what they are. I know workman drinks so no harm no foul. But I only count 3 posts with new information gleaned from your time with the game, and 1 contest. So I will be looking out for your cblog post but I believe my outrage (not really outraged) is justified.
It looks like one of those sliding image racing games kids play when they're five, where the road just scrolls towards you and you move the car left and right on a stick.
The tracks look so narrow that I'd bet you're spending all of your attention just staying on the track, never mind trying to keep track of our out-drive the other racers.
Oh look... another racing game where the physics model assumes the car has only one wheel, and you can drive sideways without bleeding off speed.
You know, it takes a special kind of retard to make a game like this. I'm not talking about someone who lacks the talent to make a fun game; I'm talking about the kind of person who actually manages to finish a project like this without being overwhelmed by shame. Movie studios will spend millions on fancy special effects for their production, then shovel over the license to a team like this?
(sigh) Why do they bother making a game like this? F-Zero took itself off the map, by actually being a decent (if not insanely challenging). But this? This is a piece of crap people should not buy.
"If only my soul wasn't so dark. I might have enjoyed that."
Really? Is that REALLY the best line you can come up with for a female racer to say when there's a collision?
Also, it looks like they're driving on a fruit-by-the-foot: The track is narrow, overly colorful, and doesn't deviate much at all. BRING ME FZERO FOR THE WII.
