While the game's been shown behind closed doors more than a few times (GameStop managers had a chance to see it at a conference earlier this year), last night's Spike VGAs marked the first public look at Fight Night Round 4.
The follow up to EA Sports' 2006 boxing title, the game looks every bit as good as expected, although the flashy effects and cuts of the trailer could obscure how the game will truly look in action. It also offers little info in terms of how the game will play. The previous games had a heavy focus on dual analog stick controls, and since they worked so well, it's hard to imagine EA would go in a drastically different direction with Round 4.
The big draw here is the legend-on-legend fighting, in particular the appearance of Mike Tyson who hasn't appeared in a good videogame since 1987. Whether or not the game is good or bad is irrelevant -- the very mention of Tyson is going to have longtime boxing fans (and even casual viewers of the sport) frothing at the mouth.
Fight Night Round 4 supposedly slated for a July release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Fight Night Round 3 is the best fighting game in existence.
Waits for retrofascists to disagree with him and say Punch Out is. They're wrong, and should go away.
:P
I hope they don't stray from the original's look and fighting mechanics. The dual stick controls worked amazingly well. The original was really innovative in it's design. Removing the health bar was the best idea ever.
Fight Night convinced me to jump in to this current gen early on, but this sequel has a lot to live up to. People probably won't be as easy to impress this time around, but I'm still highly looking forward to this.
I still play Fight Night RD3 with a friend nearly every time he comes over. He won't play Halo, gears, or L4d. Just wants to play FNR3 and its fun every time.
I've been waiting for this game for awhile, according some of the older videos on the game that are up on youtube, this one is really going to be alot more...in depth. I remember EA saying they wanna revolutionize the fighting genre with this, and I don't know how 'revolting' its gonna be exactly but the added changes really sound good. Basically they're just gonna make it alot more realistic, taking reach into account, close up slugging vs. long range, anyone who's interested I recommend go and look it up, just don't get too scared of the bad graphics.
Also I know Roy Jones is gonna be in the game, and over on the EA boards I head he's gonna be in the game in his prime, can anybody confirm this?

Also, Tyson looked/sounded so goofy last night.

Tyson is a 2nd generation George Foreman.
