First Disaster: Day of Crisis screen revealed ... photo

... and it looks like crap. Surprise! But really, what were you expecting? It is the Wii, after all.

But let's not bemoan what many of us have already come to expect, shall we? The good news is that Disaster: Day of Crisis is still on its way for the Wii from Monolith Soft, makers of the epic Xenosaga series on PS2 and the beautiful Baten Kaitos on the ol' GCN -- not really the sort of game you'd expect from a developer with a history built almost solely on RPGs.

And why should we care? For starters, my little heart jumps at the thought of any original content on the Wii, as should yours -- Disaster ain't a port, or a sequel, it's a Wii title built from the ground up. Second, if Monolith has taken any cues from Agetec's butt-ugly but sorely-underrated Disaster Report, epic world-killing disasters make for great gameplay, and set the stage for some unique applications of the Wiimote. Think action-platformer plus.

Hit that lonely one-pic gallery for a blissfully high-res shot of low-res gaming. Disaster: Day of Crisis is set to release around the end of March.

Standing ovation.

i think it looks alright actually, everything looks kindof anti-aliased and nasty in screenshot form.

for what i can see it looks like at least a good ps2 game

I don't understand why you say it looks like crap? I mean, if it was a 360 title, it would look like crap, but for the wii, I think it looks like Zelda (well, in that shot)

elgemusio, are you kidding? That lava looks like a single flat polygon. Okay, maybe six flat polygons.

Mind, I'm probably the biggest representative of Nintendo/Wii love on this goddamn site. But you can't deny that the Wii looks like pappy crap next to the PS3 and the Xbox360.

With the right application of the Wii remote, though, it clocks in at about 30x more fun than either of them.

He said that to :

A) Get the obvious out of the way (it's good for Wii, looks better than PS2, but not half as good as 360/ps3)

B) Start flame bait

C) Get into Summa's or Azrael's pants

D) All the above.

I pick x.

Ok, the lava might look like crap on that shot, but in game, it might be well animated and awesome looking. Anyway, chances are this is a screenshot from an early build of the game, so this texture might be temporary

Snaileb, don't make me take the whip to you. Or would you like that? Because I'd like that. I'm just saying -- you know, uh -- if you own any leather --

What are you doing Saturday?

I'm psyched for Disaster. I don't care if the screen shot looks less than awesome, the short clip of the game in action from one of Nintendo's video montages was awesome.

If this game is even 10% of what Disaster Report was, I'll piss myself happy.

I don't think it looks that bad.

However, I question their choice in screenshots. This shot doesn't example capture the sense of a crisis...

When's the release window? If the game's date is still far off, I wouldn't put much weight in such an early screenshot as a determinant of the final product.

GameStop says March 30, Bluefusion.

From that shot it looks sort of like a Wii rhythm thing, only you're navigating a broken lava bridge thingy and have to swing left or right depending where the holes are. Could be fun if I'm correct.

Well don't some sites Smash Bros. Brawl is coming out in March too? I'd say summer time for this game...

Actually, GameStop says June 1st for Brawl. Seems likely to me.

March 30??? This thing hasn't received any news whatsoever. I find it hard to believe it's being released that soon. Gamestop tends to display BS dates, anyway.

If it is the release date, then when it comes out may very well be described as a day of crisis for Monolith.

I'm way excited for this game, it was one of the most interesting teasers from the E3 montage.

Visually it is a bit rough, but the modeling on the character looks pretty good, I'd say. Nobody mentioned that.

Judging the look on one screen, that may or may not be final, isn't really fair.

Incidentally, has anybody seen any word on Raw Danger, the PS2 Disaster Report sequel? It was supposed to be out this month but seems to have dropped off the radar.

Oh well. If it's gone, I'll still have Day of Crisis.

It's nice that they're releasing a single screenshot, but I still want to know more concrete details about the actual game. I'm really looking forward to this, and if it is actually due out in March (somehow I doubt it), I'll be really happy.

The E3 trailer has ingame footage. I don't think the game looks half bad. Stating that it doesn't look as good as the ps3 or X360 is just stating the obvious.

Thanks for the Screenie Aaron, I have been awaiting this game with hope, but i'd say its 50:50 whether or not it sucks. As far as the release date goes, i think a few places (GameFAQs maybe?) are saying March, but on the Japanese Wii release schedule it just said TBA.

I'd actually be happy if it was anywhere near RE4 graphics. I'm not looking for NEXT GEN graphics with the Wii, I came to terms with that even before I bought it. Thats why I own a 360 as well. Wii60!!!!

Excuse me, did you say "crap?" I don't know what other images you've seen of the game but on this image I'd have to strongly disagree. What is shown in this image isn't even close to "crap." No, Bug Island looked crap, this, I could probably argue, may have the potential to actual look about on par with RE4, Silent Hill, etc., at least judging from the quality of the character model. I'm not not trying to say that the game will be great; I'm not pitching that, I'm just baffled by why so many people think the image here looks "crap." In fact the only thing I find odd in this picture is that the catwalk's "legs" are "standing" on top of the lava (indicated by the "feet" where the bolts that nail the catwalk to the ground are still visible). Other than that I think the lava looks good with a nice glow and doesn't look flat, the character looks sharp (I'd say on par with those in Resident Evil or Silent Hill - my favorite types of character models) with textures that don't look smudgy (as oppose to Bug Island), etc.
