Ever since The Sci-Fi Channel changed their name to "SyFy" I haven't watched it much. I'M JUST NOT COOL ENOUGH FOR A CHANNEL WITH A NAME THAT RAD.
Ever since the Sci-Fi Channel dumped Mystery Science Theater 3000 for WWE wrestling the entire channel has been dead to me.
Also the game looks interesting but it has an uphill battle against Firefall and Planetside both of which are further along and well frankly look better.
I am not opposed to more MMO online-only shooters, I am just saying this was not an amazing unveiling especially since the first thing you see when entering PAX East are Diamond Sword and Blood Eagle Tribals of Tribes Ascend hovering over your head.

This is the very first trailer I've ever seen when it released at a convention, instead of on a website. It's uh...not interesting to me by itself, but STILL! I saw the world premiere in person! SO COOL!
I see a total of one (1) area...I know its "pre-alpha" but there really aren't any other assets they can show off.
That said, it looks alright. More interesting to me is the rise of the MMOFPRPS or whatever were gonna call em. This, Firefall, Dust 514, and games like Borderlands and Dead Island indicate to me the rise of a genre I've wanted since MMOs were first coming on the scene two decades ago.

Maybe the Syfy show can have a Sharktopus cameo resulting in a Sharktopus boss battle in game. No? Well, nevermind then.
This looks like a far more generic version of Firefall, but with a TV show attached to it. The art direction is less inspired and the gameplay looks far more generic. Plus, unlike Firefall, it is guaranteed to cost a bunch more to play it. Has promise, but they will need an extra hook beyond interacting with a TV show I'll never watch to get me interested.
quit trying to link videogames into other media to try and drive a "universe" or story. its not worth it, the show will be canceled after 3 episodes and the game will prob flop. because its an mmo of course.
I haven't been interested in "syfy" since they canceled SGU and turned into wrestling. They canceled Eureka even tho it was a success.. it seems they are pretty much running that shithole into the ground... This won't be any different.
I think the pitch meeting went something like this...
"Blah blah blah. Think of all the microtransactions! Yea-yuh!"

"On top of the game Defiance, there's also going to be a television show of the same name appearing on SyFy."
