Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

I think we can all agree that videogame movies are, for the most, junk. So when Ubisoft decided to matters into its own hands, working with Hybride Studios for a series of Assassin's Creed shorts, I was... skeptical.

But the results, as you can see in this first of the three Assassin's Creed: Lineage episodes, are surprisingly decent. Not Hollywood blockbuster decent. More along the lines of those weird television adaptations of Shakespeare you'd find randomly only PBS -- decent acting with modest production values. Oh, and with special effects by the folks who worked on 300 and Sin City. So yeah, it looks good.

So check it out; it's a great way to spend the next 15 minutes of your life.

I dunno, I guess it's just me, but I thought the acting was awful.

It's nice to see at least that they are using our very own bunch of Quebec actors in order to do the short.

I thought I was feelin' some 300 from this. Pretty good stuff, looking forward to some more.

I'm not a fan of Assassin's Creed; however, I managed to sit through that entire short and actually got some enjoyment out of it. I'm looking forward to the next one now.

It shows that in order to make a good scene, you don't only need good tech and special effects, you also need a good director. That's the difference between this short and the other movies Hybrid was part of (Sin City, 300, etc.)

Kind of want, I'm going to have to be sure that Assasins Creed 2 isn't just Creed 1 without flag collecting.

I am actually impressed. I agree that the direction maybe needed a little work, but all in all, it looks like this whole thing will be a nicely done and damned interesting companion piece to the game. More game makers should consider branching out, I'd love to see something along these lines for BioShock 2.
