Firmware 3.0 screwing up Uncharted for some users photo

It wouldn't be a system update without problems now, would it? Firmware 3.0 is out for PlayStation 3 and some users are reporting issues, most notably a glitch that is causing Uncharted: Drake's Fortune to freeze at a certain point in the game.

The freezing bug doesn't seem to be affecting everyone, but a number of people have been complaining on the official PlayStation forums. Things start messing up after the U-boat section when Drake learns to shoot while hanging. Once affected players reach that area, the whole game locks up and they need to restart the PS3 in order to do anything.

A few people are also saying that Wipeout HD will no longer output in dolby digital 5.0 ever since they installed the new Firmware. Apparently this is the only game affected.

Like I said, it wouldn't be a system update without this kind of nonsense, but hopefully Sony looks into these issues soon. You might want to check and make sure your own PS3 isn't affected.

I find Sony's updates/installs to be very troublesome and quite archaic.

This doesn't effect me at all. I'm literally playing Uncharted right now and the past two days. Actually I stopped playing to install the Firmware and continued afterwards. So no issues here.

I'll just play Shadow Complex until Sony irons these problems out.

i dont understand how this stuff happens. if its in the code before the update why would it change in the next update ?
unless they changed something in the new code that messed with that one spot of code for those games?
it just makes no sense.
maybe uninstalling the game data after the update and then redownloading the games normal updates might fix it?

Fetus milk has the right idea. I'll have to pop it into my ps3 and see what happens.

I have no idea if it's a problem with the firmware, but I started playing Batman for the first time last night (fun game btw), and when I exited the game through the in-game XMB the PS3 crashed and I had to turn it off. Like I said, I'm not sure if it's due to the firmware or if something else messed up due to another game I also recently started to play, SOCOM: Confrontation. I've been playing it since last week and I've had it crash on me once or twice, before the firmware update, of course. I've read on the SOCOM forums that this tends to happen with SOCOM, but could SOCOM be affecting my PS3 somehow? Before SOCOM, I've never had an issue like this before with my PS3 in terms of freezing, so I'm a little worried, especially since it's a 60 gig PS3, and I do play PS2 games on it.

I also should mention that I popped in a PS1 game to play (Xenogears) and the ps3 did freeze for about 10 seconds before responding to my controller commands. I've never seen that happen before either. Has anyone else had this issue with ps1 games?

For a "big" round number update, this is one of the least worthwhile firmware updates thus far.

Basically nothing happened aside from me being able to pump sound through my TV speakers and my surround sound at the same time.

Oh, and also I have to look at scrolling "news" now when I'm on the XMB.

I have a problem with the new firmware too... they put links to the playstation store every the fuckplace.

Also, I don't care what the fuckplace is new.

Basically, I think someone at sony decided that the xmb didn't suck enough, so they threw a fuckplace of clutter at it.

I don't see there being too much of a wait before a patch. I...hope? Regarding this firmware update, for a full number iteration, there aren't too many new features to speak of, it's all aesthetic, and I don't like the overlapping of PSN into the XMB.

That being said, I imagine a lot of these problems are to do with integrating the new hardware SKU into the firmware.

With the recent price drop, the missus is starting to warm up to the idea of getting a PS3 (figure it would be cheaper than getting a stand-alone Blu-Ray player). I usually don't pay attention to news about these system updates...does this sort of screw-up happen often? Just would like to know as a heads-up...

Funny. When MS puts links to the Marketplace and a big line of ads in every line of the menu people love it. Maybe it would be better if you could play dress up with little animated dolls.

Oh yeah, why the hell are there so many links to the Playstation Store? Mother of god, it's kind of ridiculous. I know it's there Sony, I don't need the same link under so many tabs on the same danged interface.

I'm seriously hoping that's a mistake.

I don't recall anyone cheering for the ads in NXE, and at least there wasn't the same kind of redundancy we've gotten here with firmware 3.0. NXE also added shit-tons of new features. Some of us actually like the avatars.
The thing I liked about the XMB was it simplicity. It wasn't especially intuitive, but it was clean and worked. Now, I have layers of crap sandwiched between multiple advertisements running (and scrolling) all over the screen.

Frankly, I'll continue complaining about both, but you seem to be defending the XMB changes while complaining about the same changes in NXE. Sounds like a fanboyish tinge to your comment.

The 360 has it's menus badly organised. The PS3's menu changes are just the response from Sony to the "the 360 has and does everything better" crowd chant. Expect the XMB to get worse.

Seems to have messed up trophy percentages. After the update I noticed my percentage on Eat lEad jumped from 72% to 85. Burnout Paradise dropped from 70 to 68. Dead Space went up from 43% to 50. The only games on my trophy list that werent affected were the ones already at 100% with the Platinum.

To be honest, Sony can't make sure that every game ever is perfect on its newest updates. Albeit I don't see why it should have broken games, but in my opinion at least, the problem should be adressed by the game developers, rather than Sony.

Also, I hate the 360's UI with a passion. And the fact that you have to pay for avatar stuff. However I know a few people who have indeed paid for content from it.
The ads are unobtrusive really, and the only way I can tell they are ads is by the fact they load slower.

I noticed a couple of things but I know Sony is working hard on fixing them. This is a complete new update of the whole XMB so issues were expected. Like TehBuLL said,

"shit sparkles though...cant argue that its worth it for teh sparkle."

Yeap, can't argue with the sparklers... I never seen sparkles catch my eyes with so much beautiful glitter.

Well..Dolby Digital 5.0 is old crap anyway. People should get sound systems and speakers that are ready for 5.1 at the least. That may explain their problems...because I didn't think Wipeout HD supported DD 5.0, only 5.1.

I gotta try Uncharted tonight. All this whining makes me wonder if it really is true and these people aren't just pirates of some sort with modified systems.

Don't know if it's related, but I had Batman: Arkham Asylum lock up to where it locked up the whole system. Had to turn off the PS3 to get it back. Shit happens, and the game played on afterwards.

I do have the 3.0 firmware and have never had my PS3 do that to me before, but I understand that correlation != causation.

Do you guys really buy this? How do you confirm it other than knowing many of these "players" are xbots bashing the system. These rumors started minutes after the firmware was released! It is all conjecture.

Note: logic tells us most of these people are lying (turn off the PS3 to get it to work again = FAIL) See, if a game freezes on your PS3, everyone that owns one just ejects the game and then waits for the system to reset itself. Duh.

Ok i just bought a PS3 slim and uncharted. I had this problem with the game freezing all the time. I tried the eject disc i tried restoring default PS3 settings and non of it worked. I took the system back to best buy and it is working perfectly now. not one freeze since i started playing it again. So these are not rumors just started by Xbots.

I updated and have been playing Uncharted the last couple days and while I didn't have any u-boat problems, my game locked up after I escaped the pit and was running from the Spanish mutant things the first time you fight them.

Just finished Uncharted a few days before the update so can't be bothered checking it again just yet. On the other hand I've had absolutely zero problems with my PS3 since the update.

I don't even mind the text size change. To be fair I didn't even notice it until someone started moaning about it on a forum. The internet has a lot to answer for.

I know Uncharted would always freeze for me at the point when you start running away from the islands inhabitants, after the mine. Always. This was before FW3.

Loving the FW change :) The text size is my favourite... now I don't have to squint as much on my massive HD TV!

It's not the firmware, it's the game. I had that happen to me on my first playthrough of the game a few months ago. Hasn't happened on my second or third playthroughs though.
