Firefly MMO announced, geeks everywhere orgasm and fall over

Firefly MMO announced, geeks everywhere orgasm and fall over photo
     Hollywood

Courtesy of Multiverse, a Firefly MMO will soon be born. For all those fans who have spent the last few years emo over having no more of the beloved space western to whet their appetites, it'll be time to saddle up in front of your computers soon enough. The first questions that pop into my mind are: can we play as the characters? If so, who can we play? Will it be set in 2517 again or a different time? Can we fly the Serenity? Can we go to Inara to have our health "refilled"?

Realistically, this could be fantastic if Joss Whedon is behind the creation of it. There's no mention of it in the article, so we'll just have to hope. Regardless of whether he's on for the ride or not, the mere announcement of this game is enough to inspire instantaneous neural aneurysms in the geek community. We'll be watching close for further updates on this one.

I loved the series and REALLY loved the movie.

All the more reason NOT to make it into a MMO.

Any magic breathed into this series was from the intricacies of the story and personal level of character interaction and development, both of which are typically non-existant in MMO's.

Sure the firefly 'verse is a servicable starting point for a sci-fi MMO but don't expect the "magic" to translate well to the game or you'll be disappointed I think.

That being said, when's this puppy releasing?

I am so excited to hear this. So much potential with the world of Firefly. I thought a game would be sweet but I wouldn't want to play the main characters. Just being in the world in an MMO of Firefly, each player could choose what kind of character they want to play. And they could have "crews" instead of guilds. They could easily get some ideas from the Firefly tabletop game. Just the idea of getting with some of my other friends that are big Firefly friends and flying around and smuggling shit makes me excited. Or maybe you could play as Alliance and shit, who knows.

Personally? I think it's like the matrix - good but shouldn't have been made into an MMO

If it sucks, I'd still buy it, never play it, and just put it on the shelf next to the series and movie. You had me at MMO...er, I mean "Firefly."

I'd really kinda rather have an offline adventure game where you play as the Serenity crew myself, but I'll probably check this out when (if) it comes out.

Loved the series and the Movie, but a game doesn't seem right although I do agree it would be sweet to roleplay a reaver.... do you get bonus points for eating flesh and raping people to death???

I don't see how this couldn't work. It'll basically be EVE online with the possibility of more 'on planet' gameplay.

It'd be cool if they managed to intertwine the game's story with that of the series making it so you're just a few steps behind the Serenity crew.
