TNA superstar AJ Styles told me he was a big fan of the Fire Pro wrestling series, and for good reason. The game's out-of-control character customization is unmatched in any videogame to date. It also doesn't hurt that Styles (or a likeness of) has appeared in the series.
So I'm picturing his face as he reads this news: Agetec will be releasing Fire Pro Wrestling Returns for the PlayStation 2 at an MSRP of $14.99 on November 13. We're talking instant "Bargain Bin Laden," status folks.
"Fans will definitely love how much they will get out of this game," says Agetec's Mark Johnson, "You can spend hours customizing super-deep characters and designing every dream match imaginable."
First person to create and send us a Mr. Destructoid wrestler (with screens to prove it!) wins a to-be-determined prize. The challenge has been issued -- are you up to the task?
I went to high school with AJ Styles' cousin, in case anyone cares.
I've never gotten around to playing Fire Pro Wrestling, but it looks awesome. The Smackdown games are crap. I haven't played a good wrestling game since No Mercy on N64.
Fire Pro has never been about the graphics it's all about the gameplay. It's pretty much the best wrestling game series next to the N64 ones. Trust me, the game is damn fun and at $15 it's a damn steal.
I bought the past few fire pro as imports. So to finally have the chance to use it all without going back and forth to gamefaqs. For those whom haven't tried the buttery goodness that's found in their caw, will love the depth. There's nothing I liked more than tooling around with your character's a.i. so they wrestle like you'd want them to.
take wrestling, lucha, king's road, and mma, blend it in with fighting system that's more simulator/rpg based in stats, toss in that caw. Then you have something that's equally fun to watch in cpu vs cpu match as playing yourself.
I'm really looking forward to this. It's the return of the summer of HAGE.
I remember my friend running a VHS tape of his Fire Pro wrestler (in his image, in Blockbuster garb), on the Blockbuster screens while we worked late Saturdays. No one else got it, but it was fun! THQ and Midway take notice, THIS IS A WRESTLING GAME.
People who question the graphics of Fire Pro are usually graphic whores. It's perhaps the greatest wrestling game series of all time and that's what makes it great, the gameplay. Not to mention that with this style of graphics you can almost always make a reasonable edit (aka CAW) of anyone, where as in Smackdown you spend most of the time trying to decide which eyebrows or lips to select. Fantastically animated moves, tons of customization, largest roster in a wrestling game ever (327 pre-set and 500 edit slots), etc. All for $14.99 too! What more could you ask for? Definitely my most anticipated game.
I hope that "exploding" ring that stuns everyone to the ground for like 10 secs only happens once in a while and not every 30 secs. Other than that, DO WANT!
Fire Pro never uses real wrestlers, just color swaps of the guys plus customization to the point where you can make any wrestler in history if you want. DOOOOO WAAAAANT!
Actually, it only happens once in the match and you can adjust the time for which it'll happen at. The idea is basically to win the match before the ring "explodes" because, well, it's an explosion. They no sell it if it happens too early in the match, it's best to set it later when you and your opponent will be worn down.

Yes, it's all the real wrestlers, only renamed to avoid legal problems. You can however rename them if you like. The majority of the roster are Japanese based wrestlers and there aren't many WWE or TNA guys in it, they didn't include them in the game because there were afraid they'd be threatened with lawsuits. After all the UFC threatened to sue them for using an octagon in the Gameboy Advanced Fire Pro games. However, many of the WWE stars who were in past versions will still have all of their parts and moves in Edit mode.
Is this game going to have online play? I hope it gets ported to Wii too, because I'd like to play 4 players without buying an adapter and 2 more controllers.
It has what it had in Japan, aside from now being in English. So, no online. A game like this really wouldn't work well online, any bit of lag would just ruin the match as it requires proper timing to pull of moves and such.
But in this case, it's most likely the case as the game relies very heavily on split second timing. It's not like most wrestling games where you can lock up with someone and then just do the move on your own time. As soon as you lock up, you and your opponent can both perform moves, so the faster person wins.
Cant wait any longer for FPR. This is gonna own months of my gameplay time. Creating edits in FirePro is a near science. Its also true that being online would probably ruin this game due to it having very precise timing. Complain or not if you dont buy this game its just your loss. Treating my PS2 like a second full time job here I come!

DO WANT
It reminds me of the arcades.
Wow, Want.

Now that it's in english I can finally enjoy Fire Pro to it's fullest.
Here's hoping for King of Colesium to come out in the states too.

Why don't more games today have such awesome themes?
I can't wait.
