Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon on Amazon's Deal of the Day photo

Today's Amazon Deal of the Day for videogames is worth looking at.  They've priced Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon at $14.99, which is a savings of 50%.

In case you forgot, Shadow Dragon is a remake of the original Fire Emblem for the Famicom and the first time the original game has appeared on US soil. The DS release featured online multiplayer with voice chat, six difficulty settings and an all-new prologue to Marth's quest in the tutorial section of the game. Quite a bit of stuff there.

I might pick this one up, personally. I have yet to play a Fire Emblem game and it makes sense to start from the beginning. And if I'm going to play as Marth in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I might as well have a reason other than that I can kick ass using him.

Tempting, I've never played a Fire Emblem and that's a good price.

I obviously whole heartedly suggest anyone buys this, however, if it's yoru first Fire Emblem game... Well, it's not really the best one to start with, just letting you guys know.

I would give the GBA Fire Emblems a spin before purchasing this one.

This is tempting... But I've still got that last Fire Emble for the GBA to play.

Shadow Dragon is pretty much equal to the GBA ones in terms of gameplay. Aside from wanting an enhanced story and somewhat decreased graphics there's not any reason to start with the GBA ones in favour of this one. The reason Shadow Dragon got such stupid fan reviews was because it's the exact same game as all the others without any upgrades aside from a slight graphical one.

@sicPOS: Even on the easiest setting, (except for the tutorial) the game is a pretty tough Fire Emblem game compared to the GBA ones. Also, it's different in many ways to most of the series and has a very, very different art style.

I just believe that if you start with this one you might not appreciate how great the older ones were.

And of course I can't buy it cause I live in Canada... damn you Amazon, you've (likely not) screwed me for the last time!

Been wanting to grab this since I beat the GC and Wii games, great series and actually tough on most settings.

Meh, its Fire Emblem. Those of you who haven't played the series before might be intrigued but you might want to be forwarned that its sort of the... Wild Arms of strategy RPGs. It's not bad, but also not stellar. $15 is about right for this one.

Before you guys say anything, remember that the person up front is 1) a man, and 2) straight.

To the writer of this article I'd strongly suggest that you don't start with this game, it's trash (this coming from someone who once considered FE to be their favorite series)

If you wanna start the series then I suggest you start with FE7 like most American players (the GBA game without a subtitle and the dude with the red hair on the cover) it's one of the best SRPG games I can think of.

I second kefkaesque.

the first fire emblem that came out for the GBA is also my favorite. maybe it's a personal preference thing, but while the gameplay is always the same, the cast from game to game varies and FE7 had the most likable by far.

the game is much more fun when you give a damn about the characters. also, the story in that one is pretty good. it's nothing special, but the story in the others can be downright stupid sometimes.
