Quantcast

Fans of Japanese strategy RPGs are such a rare breed, but I know they're out there (and I'm with you), so this one is for them.

Some may remember my bitching very early this year about our Japanese friends preparing to enjoy the grid-based game play goodness of Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn for the Nintendo Wii. At that time there was no word on a domestic release. Now, even though it's already October, it's nice to see some English text in videos of this Wii SRPG.

To ramp things up for the upcoming November U.S. release, we're beginning to see some game footage like this gameplay from something called the "Zaitan Battle." Too much dialogue for a trailer? Check. Too many similar battles for a trailer? Check. Lots of grids and numbers and whatnot? Check.

Honestly, console SRPG fans aren't a hard-to-please bunch. These GameCube-era cell-shaded graphics and flat screens of dialogue are good enough for most. Hell, just the name Fire Emblem is good enough for most.

[Thanks, Justin]

Looks good to me. Can't wait to play this come November.

More Fire Emblem? Sounds well and fine. Now if we could get more Super Robot Wars, I'd be a happy gamer. Given the licensing issues, that seems unlikely to impossible.

IT'S SO EXCITING! Omigawd Sothe, it's a direct sequel. Hawt. I need to go beat PoR. I was playing it nonstop until I lost 95% of the way through that 4 part battle...

I think Wedge answered my question for me, but I'm still going to ask it. Is Sothe the main character in this one?

@ZeroTolo
No Sothe really isn't the main character. Micalah and Ike are.

I just tried playing the GC Fire Emblem last week. Try as I might, I couldn't get into it. The battles were fun, but the inane dialogue endless. I didn't really care about any of the characters other than the white robe healer guy and the red head rider, because they stood out as actually being useful in battle. Of course it might be because I played it straight after Battalion Wars so I was constantly wanting direct control of my characters. Maybe I'll try again some day.

It's so true about Fire Emblem fans. Even though I've always known this one would look and play exactly like Path of Radiance, I'm still going to get it on launch day, and love every moment of it. I don't what it is about these games.

Also, where's FE on the DS, Nintendo?? Sheesh.

I love the fire emblem series. The story never really stands out, but the gameplay is always tons of fun. And, I love that there are always tons and tons of characters.

I played for a second at PAX.

It's Fire Emblem.

On the Wii.

That's all.

I prefer my FE on handhelds, thank you.

What's inexcusable is the lack of wiimote pointing. It just seems like a really sloppy presentation issue.

Finally! I thought Nintendo forgot they hadn't released it in US due to the lack of updates.

I love me some Fire Emblem. FE is probably one of the best games out there that are awesome but could be so much better.
