Finally! Paypal can now be used to buy Microsoft Points photo

Mother is too afraid to user her credit card over the Internet. CNN, FOX News or whomever has led her to believe that this fascinating online web of awesome is a dark and evil place where thugs and scoundrels gather. The media is probably right, but the majority of us -- hopefully -- are aware that typing our sensitive credit digits ain’t no thing if they’re given to actual retailers. Apparently, enough of the Xbox LIVE community isn't with it. Starting tonight, you can use PayPal to purchase Microsoft Banana Dollars.

There’s not much to it. According to Major Nelson, potential users will need to travel to the official Xbox Web site and then link their account. Boom. That’s it.

This method of payment can only be used on the official Xbox page -- not on the dashboard. It’s also only available to the US. Sorry, Canadians.

Iv had my card on my 360 since i got it at launch. Never had a problem i don't really see a reason for this. But i guess it works for some people. Personally i think its a waste of time. They could of put that time into making dedicated servers.

@Zeta it's useful for people who don't have credit cards or would prefer to use them for larger purchases. Plus, most people have PayPal drawing directly from their bank account, which is far more convenient than credit.

But they need to stop with the weird iterations, 1200 points = $15, giving the illusion that things are cheaper then they really are 800 points is NOT cheaper than $10.00. At least allow real money for anything $5 or more. I'm also sick of how Microsoft is usually keeping money you might never spend unless you buy more points.

At least on the Zune, there is a real money option (monthly subscription vs. single song download). But still, Down with Space Bucks.

all I want is for MS to drop these space bucks and show the price of their content in a currency I understand , is that so much to ask?

So can I still not buy how ever many points I want to buy? Because if I can't then I don't care about this at all. Being able to buy the exact number of points (or just buy the product I want via cash a la Steam and every other normal store in America) is all that I want.

I mean, do we need to buy special Walmart points to buy something at Walmart? How ridiculous does that even sound?

This is FAIL.

Bullshit the reason i don't buy anythign from the 360 market place is because they don't accept my debit card and fuck going out and spending a fortune on points cards!

I'll stick with using Amazon's instant codes for my MSP needs.

The reason me and some mates don't buy MS points directly is because they have a very american selection of acceptable card (so basically they don't have our card type) and now they add a good idea and make it only available to the people who probably don't need this feature the most. Brilliant.

So when do they make it easy to remove a payment type from Xbox Live?

I still have an old credit card on there that is no longer valid, and even more annoyingly, it gets selected as the default payment type because it is first in the list, so I have to change it every time I buy something.

@Shawn: Go to xbox.com, click on Contact Information, Manage Payment Options, remove credit card?

I don't know if the MS site changed it's CC storage options recently, but last year I was unable to purge my CC from being linked to my GT, and had to call the Support line. From there, someone called me back, and gave me a number for XBL Gold resubscription, as they had to cancel my service that was established on the CC, and renew it via the XBL Gold Card Number the agent gave me.

Oh hey, when you use the Zune software to Add Points, it will save to your Gamertag. As a pleasant shock, they did in fact add the option to 'Remove a Card' and Link your Paypal account, on Xbox.com

Praises to being able to remove my CC info, I loathe having my CC linked to my GT, especially to prevent 'Drunken DLC' purchases. I'm also not a fan of getting a points card in stores, as the shops who supply them don't make a profit, and leaving the house for no reason is fail. Now I can get DLC with my Card, and purge the info when done. ;)
