Finally we get to lay eyes on what we've been wanting to see all this time: real time Metal Gear Solid 4 game play. Hideo Kojima said that he would eventually get to show actual game play at a later time at Sony's press conference during the E3 Media & Business Summit earlier this month, and he stuck to his word, showing it off at Konami's Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party yesterday.

GameVideos has managed to sneak us this demo video, hot off the presses. There is a full 15 minutes of game play goodness, with Kojima narrating the whole time. We get to see how the in-game camera moves, the amazing camouflage feature in action, and many other game play techniques. Marvel at 'Solid Eye' in action and even witness Mk.II kicking some PMC ass. Brilliant.

Oh, and Snake even does a 'barrel roll'!

[thanks, GameVideos]

I'm so glad I still have my PS3. Lol. This game alone will be worth keeping it. I know the 360 thing is still up in there air, but hey. This game looks beautiful.

I'm excited about the online game as well considering I never got to check out the other online experience! Especially after I heard how good it was!

So did you just pull the drum out of your massive gluts?

What would be better is if you had to take the lid off of one and then climb in. You know, realism and what not? I thought that is what "Next-Gen" was all about!

People need to understand that Sony and Kojima have a movie deal which is probably in exchange for MGS4 Ps3 exclusivity.

Goddamn this game is gonna be the rox. I don't know how I feel about the circle of vibration around snake in stead of a radar, I'm sure they have some great reasons for the change.

I heard about the movie too. I believe Kojima is looking for a Snake and trying to get a good script.

coonskin05:

They haven't even mentioned the possibility of a 360 version yet, so I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume that this is running on the PS3 hardware.

Kurt Russell was the original model of Snake. I don't think he is being considered...

@ the "witty"(read: hot topic print) avatar kid, sunami88:

They didn't show this at E3 for a few reasons. Maybe they weren't ready with it? Also, they wanted to show off the new PSP, downloadable games, and price drop. That is ALOT of stuff to show off. MGS4 would've been overkill maybe.

Plus Kojima was probably saying, "Umm, you want this to remain a timed exclusive? Let me show it off at the Konami event!"

that camouflaging while Snake is on the floor doesn't look very convincing. and the fact that the soldiers fell for it is so dumb. about the metal barrel roll, it'd be really stupid if enemies can actually be killed that way.

Anthony Burch at 07/24/2007 13:19
Looks gorgeous, but must camouflage STILL require a pause menu? Why not just assign it to a button? Having to pause the game then, choose a specific sort of camouflage, really kill the flow of a game (see: MGS3).

For the statue bit, anyway. The other camouflage stuff looked pretty streamlined and badass.

They should call this game Metal Gears of War Solid, and Cliffy B should sue for custody.

Also, after watching Snake shimmy forward on the ground by making love to the floor I had to wash my eyeballs.

That was pretty damn cool. Some of the animations seemed a bit awkward, but that might be just me.
One thing that kinda bothers me though is the fact that he just pulls out an RPG from outta nowhere. But I've never played a MGS game before and I guess thats just the way they do it.

well all the games in the MGS series so far have been known to break the 4th wall.

And it is a bit arcadey when it comes to things like carrying 3 different labeled boxes, an rpg, granade launches and a sniper all at the same time.
deiga-the-semivaliant's Avatar
deiga-the-semivaliant at 07/24/2007 14:18
I think mono should shut up.

Along with the fact that Cliffy B WISHES he were Hideo Kojima, the third person view shooting is taken more from Splinter Cell (which alternates between third person and over the shoulder view) than Gears of War (which is over the shoulder the whole time).

But I'll give you that humping the ground thing. Still, I'm pretty sure Snake doesn't do it to look good.

When the heck is the full 15 minute video gonna be back up? All my dicks are cumming in anticipation to cum! While I am greatly thankful for the youtube clips, I couldn't get off to them. The videos ended too soon. Which is saying quite a lot (not really).

Kojima's a very inspired wunderkind who needs to come out of puberty. I'm sure David's relieved, now that the itch on his balls has been scratched after 300 years. And the fact that you can put your captives on the floor and hump/rape them into unconsciousness is something I've always dreamed about but never had the courage to do. If you'd rather them standing, simply squeeze their balls really, really hard. I know I'd pass out. From sheer joy!

Now if Snake could only carry a digital camera so I could upload some of those "men's magazines" to my porn server.

Seriously, when can I buy this game?

For all of you people with 360s hoping it will come to that system here is latest news from the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Party.

After party is just getting started. Big time industry names like Mizuguchi and Suda51 are about. One, though, stands out. Xbox Japan honcho Takashi Sensui makes his way through the crowd. I pull him aside:
ME: "What did you think of the MGS4 gameplay demo?"
HIM: "It was very good."
"Why are there still rumors that MGS4 will appear on the Xbox 360?"
"What do you mean?"
"Kojima appeared on stage at a Sony event, saying it was an exclusive. But the rumors won't stop."
"Many of our users want MGS4 on the Xbox 360."
"Will they get it?"
"Ask him."
Sensui points to Kojima on stage.
"I don't mean to be rude," I say, "but why are you here then?"
"Kojima is an old friend of mine."
