@GohanGVO: Oh, that makes sense, thanks.
@AliasWyvernspur: Preach on brother (sister?), when this crap hits consoles, gaming as we knew it will cease to exist... or we'll all have to turn to cracks to use our legitimate purchases, pretty damn ironic IMO.
I tested your theory (that this was a ploy to stop Game Sharing) and it doesn't hold true. I played the game that I bought and downloaded on another person's account, and it worked just fine.
Well actually the DRM doesn't stop you from dowloading the game to another console (that has the login details of the psn id used to buy the game), this is how it works:
1.- Buy the game on your console.
2.- Login with your PSN id at your friends PS3
3.- Download the game (5 authorizations for 5 different consoles, I think 3 for PSP)
4.- They can be used on any of the profiles on any of the PS3s either on or offline
5.- This allows you to download the game, log off from your friend's account, login to yours and never bother with the game checking for the original PSN id that was used to download it.
The DRM actually adds this check up to the game, it stops you from using the game with another PSN id, as the PSN id is always online it doesn't allows for a second sign in making the game useless until there's a log off.
So, the game can still be used by all the PS3s used to download it, only that none of the trophies will register to another account and you'll have to make a schedule for the use of the game and the account with your friends.
Awful move by Capcom as I'm sure this will only make people less likely to buy the game on PS3
@ Alias - I wouldn't worry about it too much. The cost of the PS3 is too great to consider a future console, hence why a ten year cycle was selected out of necesity rather than consumer value. And Microsoft isn't very good at not losing money on consoles either.
Basically, unless both Microsoft and Sony undergo a tremendous shift in values, it might be impossible for either to justify entering the next generation of consoles dues to hardware costs. And a radical shift in values would also make that point mute, as then Sony wouldn't behave anti-consumer. I don't see a future for either console not because of lack of consumers, but because of exponentially increasing costs nobody is willing to reduce. But as of today, Sony is still Sony, and treats it's peripherals the same as Sony would. The same can be said for Microsoft. That's why cosmetic changes like Move and Natal will not be enough - the two companies are themselves and act themselves, and they were rejected already. Especially of note is Sony, who shipped the PS3 with the motion controller six-axis, a never used feature, and who's first attempt at motion controls has failed to overtake the motion-controlless Microsoft, let alone Nintendo.
Thanks :D
@ Volomon
If you don't think Sony controls what exactly happens on their console and network then you are either foolish, or trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Like you pointed out, the same game does not have restrictions on XBox360 and there has to be way more money lost on the 360 due to piracy, tons more than what companies may loose by "Game Sharing" considering EVERYTHING is pirate'able on the 360, including DL Games and DLC. My "diatribe" LOL, you must have been waiting to use that one.
