Dammit, Square Enix. Dammit! I said I wasn't going to play any more MMORPGs! I don't have time! And yet, when you make Final Fantasy XIV look like THIS, well, how else am I supposed to react?
At any rate, I'll have to withhold my unreasonable urges at least long enough to show you these new screens and art from the game, courtesy of Andria Sang. You can get a really close look at some of the races here, as well as more jaw dropping shots of the CG. When is this coming out again? Who's willing to play with me?I take back everything I said about not having time for MMOs. I'll make time!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
in the third row, second from the left,
looks like...
Nice looking Spears? Yes!
Stations/Pans/Devices for crafting? Yes!
Lalafell being as adorable as TaruTaru? Yes!
I just hope that they let me transfer my old IGN from FFXI, even though I quit a couple months ago.
...
Oh, but Guild Wars 2 won't have a subscription fee...
...
Oh shit, but there's a KOTOR MMO in the works too! What the hell, is 2010 gonna be the year of the MMO!? IN THE MIDDLE OF A RECESSION!?
...
Well...I'm gonna wait and see.
This game will not at all be like FF XI. Are you really basing that off of just the superficial screenshots we've seen so far? Because if you actually read about the mechanics it's not similar.
If you're talking about just the graphics then.. I don't know.. I guess you're just high.
That being said I did say in my post that I would continue to read up on how they end up implementing the "growth" system for skills etc. in the game since it seems they are going for something new and that should be interesting.
I've played FFXI for about five years until recently and thus far, this is rather different for a few reasons. The primary things being armor/weapon degradation, crafts are actual professions on par with the others and not side-jobs and cities will no longer be central gathering points.
They're also moving away from some traditional job archtypes, as the crafting professions have shown. These jobs will have combat functions, though lighter than other jobs. So you can be a cook and only a cook if that's all you're there for.
Apparantly there are also factions from within the races. I'm not expecting good/evil archtypes, but its nice to see they'll be some friction within the races rather than just between nations this time.
Obviously they'll be building on some of the ideas of FFXI, but pegging it as FFXI-2 would be a bit hasty. There's a lot of things from FFXI I wouldn't want them to bring over, like Dynamis or the 21-24 hour HNM spawns. They probably won't make stuff like that for this one.
Should be better this time, you can level without the need of a PArty and there are TONS TONS TONS of stuff to do. In fact, in FF14 you don't even need to kill anything, you can live the life of one of a blacksmith/culinary/weaver. There are even separate quests that don't involve any sort of grinding. Not that I do not enjoy, I love killing as much as the next suicidal Lalafel.
So SquareEnix is finally doing it right this time.
Can't wait for this to release! :D
PS: That's a good thing.
Damn you Sqeenix. =/
