Final Fantasy XIV's online currency is called Crysta photo

Oh shista, it's Crysta!

Crysta sounds like a bad porn name, but it's also what Square Enix is calling their new currency for the upcoming online game, Final Fantasy XIV. It's also the name of the subject of this fan page. Wow.

You'll convert your IRL money into this Crysta, which Eurogamer says will go for the rate of 100 Crysta to £1 or €1, depending on your location. Your money will be wasted changed in blocks of 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000 or 10,000, and they say that there will be a cap on how much Crysta your account can hold at one time.

What did they have against Gil?

Aren't they already using "crysta" for their own official website, and its digital transactions?

Also is any entity more pompous than Square enix has been in the last decade or so?

It's basically just Square-Enix's version of Microsoft Points or Wii Points. I believe they're going to add more things that you can purchase with it, but for now it's good for FFXIV service fees.

You don't have to use the Crysta system, either, if you set up automatic subscription. Those UltimateGameCard things that they sell in drugstores are redeemable for Crysta, however.

Gil still exists in-game. Crysta is only for the web, as far as I know. (And unless something changed when the CE launched, there's nothing you can buy with it either, so it's like buying Microsoft Banana Bucks but for an empty store.)

Crysta is just one of many examples of animation from the early 90's shaping my preference of short-haired ladies for the rest of my life.

Oh yay, yet another arbitrary game developer currency!

I'm just waiting for the day one of these currencies becomes popular enough to be tracked and reported on FOREX watches. Crysta replaces the Yen!! MS Points replaces the Dollar!!

There's a cap? What the fuck is that point of that? This game sounds incredibly stupider every day.

Currently you can only have $100 worth of "Crysta" on your Square-Enix account at any one time.

But, with the only thing you can purchase with Crysta right now being FF14 services fees, what would you need more than that on there for? The highest-priced payment option is the 180-day plan for $47 and change, anyway.

Rather was there a recession or a crysis in FF world to change monetary system.

Wow, this game is really shaping up to be one hell of a winner. We have a dying economy and Square Enix is trying to milk us for every extra little cent we own.

This is one expensive game.
