Final Fantasy XIV PC beta testers wanted photo

Do you have the Internet? Can you write good and explain issues gooder? Do you like videogames with Moogles and fancy unreleased MMOs that might have them?

Excellent. You’re just a few requirements shy of participating in the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV beta test. Neat, right?

Last afternoon, Square Enix announced that it is now taking applications for possible PC beta testers via the game’s official Web site.  Possible testers are required to have a solid Internet connection, be willing to report issues, be at least the 18 years of age, and own a Square Enix ID.

There’s no word on when the beta begins, but we do know that there will be several selection waves. In addition to that, apparently a PS3-specific beta test is possible: the “Fine Print” section of the pre-application page says, “Details regarding recruitment for the PlayStation 3 version will be released at a later date.”

Via Aaron Linde's twitter "Hah, the Final Fantasy XIV beta application. They ask if I run a game-specific dedicated fan site. There is no "no" option. Instead, they just list all the permutations of a fansite -- a FFXIV fansite? A vanilla Final Fantasy fansite? Or, if all else fails, "A fan site that is none of the above." Do I have to start a fan site now? "Thank you for applying to the Final Fantasy XIV closed beta. We expect your Final Fantasy XIV fansite to be up and running within a week." "

@ GamesAreArt,

Yeah, filled mine out a few hours ago. Same thing. I chose "A fan site that is none of the above." Watch that means I'm disqualified. Oh well.

Quick, someone make a site called "None of the Above" a fansite for everybody else and we'll all say we run it together like a big ol' commune of none of the above-ness.

@GamesAreArt There was a "no fan site" option, at least in the European application.

An old limbus linkshell forum I created that was up for about 9 months before auto-disabling itself from lack of use counts as a fansite right? I hope it does because that's what I put. Maybe the 3 years of time I wasted on XI will count for something.

I like how it asked you about your system and how it reminds me that its old and outdated which makes me cry. I hope they choose me as a way to test their game on lower systems that suck. That will be fun...

@GamesAreArt Yeah I noticed the same thing when I just filled mine out. I attempted to leave it blank and it forces me to choose something, so i just chose the "None of the Above" option.

I would apply if I wasn't busy with other things. But I am. It intrigues me they are doing a PS3 beta test though, I would have thought they would iron all the issues out on PC before porting it across to PS3, so it's nice to see they want to do a good job of the PS3 version.

@Jon B - SE got a lot of volatile reactions for not doing simultaneous releases with the early expansions, even though at worst Chains of Promathia was a five day wait between the US and Japan.

We also saw it staggered like this in terms of total releases: JP PS2 version came out first and Sony didn't have the HDDs to meet demands, forcing the issue of the JP version (PC gamers don't like to admit it, FFXI was originally intended for PS2). SE eventually gets the PC version out.

Two years after hoth JP versions are released in Japan, they release the PC version in the US, then the PS2 version six months after that on the PS2.

Then about two years after Chains of Promathia, It launches on 360 in the US... then six months or so later in European territories.

They eventually got real good at getting the expansions out on the same day. But not so much same platform or region.

So yeah, I don't think they want to make PS3 users wait so much. This time they intend a world wind release for everything everytime. Except the stubborn jerks at MS want this game on Xbox Live Gold and SE ain't having it. They want the deal they got with FFXI.

Morbid curiosity got me to apply. Having endured some years of FFXI makes me want to see how this one will go down. :o

This was an odd beta application because they didn't ask for any DXDiag info. You can just completely lie about your specs. Very strange.

@runtheplacered

You seem to be under the impression that people with the best specs get into betas. That is incorrect, they will be looking for a wide range of specs to test their range of consumer.

Someone send me a message please as an answer to my question. It asked for a Square Enix ID? What the heck do I put in there? I have tried everything, I play FFXI and tried that info and any other SE related account.
