Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
My PC is just under the specs graphics card wise to run this, which is telling me I probably need to upgrade sometime after I buy a new 360.
I do need to import the sound track collection at some point, too.
I'm probably not going to get this on PC though, probably PS3. Plus I already have a security token.
Ill get the collectors. I love FFXI...but the slow progression + the hardcore boss/NM/Item camping sucks ass. So....hell yeah. Waited for a release date since Colette wrote the first time about FFXIV during e3 2009!
wait....what???
Its true PS3 version isn't in Beta yet, but that's because the PS3 version is also not that dissimilar from the PC version this time. Its not indicative of when the PS3 version gets released. They're actually not going to need so many people for the PS3 beta as they will for the PC one.

Who knows... All my other FFXI and WoW buddies seem like they're still on board, and honestly a good crowd can make up for a less than stellar game in some cases (at least in my experience), so maybe I'll end up with it anyway.
And jeez, those specs feel pretty dang high. While I sit comfortably higher than all of those recommended specs, the vcard requirement is spot on with my machine. The benchmark ran well at 1360x720 but chugged at 1920x1080 on my machine.
While I agree that compared to the usual Final Fantasy fare this guy looks like Ahnauld... but a guy that looks like Prince Charming in Shrek 2 does not look masculine
Either make the game disks $20 or give the player 90 days free. I guess since it's a FF game they can Rape the fans on the front end and milk them dry on the back...
You either pay a monthly fee.
Or you play for free and "probably" can't progress very far, or get decent gear without paying ridiculous prices for micro transactions.
Or they are like WoW, which charges you a monthly fee, and has ridiculously priced micro transactions.
Otherwise, it looks interesting, but I'm still pretty wary.
@branflakesinmilk: If it's like FFXI, then no, it's not a requirement, just an added layer of protection for your account. You'd have to pay.. 5-10 dollars for it separately? I don't remember the exact price (never bought one for my FFXI account), but I think it's pretty neat of them including it in the collectors. I think this is the version I'll be picking up.
#1: Don't buy a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE game to play solo. Fuck..
#2: Just because YOU couldn't do something doesn't mean it's impossible. I soloed many of my jobs just to prove it was possible.
#3: Other bullshit. STFU
#4: You didn't have to grind. FFXI had more to do than any other game in existance. If you CHOSE to go grind, that doesn't mean the game didn't have hundreds of other things you could have been doing instead.
I'm 100% positive FFXIV will require a subscription fee on PS3 and won't be free, they were just saying it won't require a plus membership. FFXI on 360 didn't require a gold membership but you still had to pay the monthly fee. Square would be stupid to just let PS3 owners play for free while PC owners have to pony up $13/month not to mention an extra $3/month for each extra character. There would be public castrations of square executives.
Thing is though, one of the required fields was "do you own a fansite", and there was no option for "no"
So either they screwed up the application, or beta is supposed to be limited to fansite owners... granted you could always lie...
@ChronosWing
Where did you find that THIS game will charge for additional characters
Good Son of Odin.... there goes my next 5 years of RL...
Here's hoping those jumping on this one and are still recovering from XIII enjoy it.
LOL @ YOU
Same. I was really getting excited for this too.
I'm assuming PS3 will be free, but what a coincidence--there's now PSN+ they can hide it in.
lol again first day in the mmo world. It will not be free for ps3 AND i like to have good servers and added content. The only way to get those is to pay for it.
But, I'm not sure if I wanna get this or SWTOR. I'm at a lost there. I enjoyed FFXI but I never had the time to get into it. By the time I did get back to it everyone was such a high lvl I couldn't find anyone to play with and I didn't feel like grinding so harsh on solo. I don't want that to happen again and SWTOR says the will have a good solo campaign.
