Those willing to pony up $74.99 for the "Collector's Edition" will take home quiet a haul, which includes:

  • IN-GAME ITEM – Collector’s Edition preorders will include a reward code to receive an exclusive in-game item, the Onion Helm.*
  • EARLY ACCESS – Play 8 days prior to the release of the Windows PC Standard Edition (timing of access subject to initial server capacity).
  • BEHIND-THE-SCENES DVD – Get an insider look at the making of FINAL FANTASY XIV, with exclusive video content, interviews and more in this special documentary DVD.
  • SECURITY TOKEN – A FINAL FANTASY XIV–branded Security Token for use with your regular password.
  • TRAVEL JOURNAL – Record your travels in this beautifully bound journal filled with pages of never-before-seen concept art.
  • RIGHT OF PASSAGE – Redeem a voucher to receive your fully-personalized Right of Passage Certificate, each stamped with a unique serial number.
  • AMANO COVER – Special PC Collector’s Edition illustration by renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano.
  • FREE GAMEPLAY – Free gameplay for 30 days.

The title will cost $12.99 for a 30 day period, for those interested in exploring the Realm of Eozrea month in and month out.

Square Enix has also revealed that the beta for the game will begin in early July; you can now sign up online to participate. Specs for the beta can be found after the jump.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this game, I want it to be fun, and not the boring grindfest/groupfest that FF11 was. Ill get the collectors edition because I'm a sucker for FF games.

I've been in the alpha/beta for a few weeks. If you didn't like FFXI, you won't like FFXIV.

To bad the PS3 version doesn't come out until 6 months after. Oh well, will give me a chance to see how it runs at my buddies place.

My PC is just under the specs graphics card wise to run this, which is telling me I probably need to upgrade sometime after I buy a new 360.

Funny how its only FFXI and FFXIV that have only ever gotten Amano boxart in the states. I quit FFXI late last year, but I still kept the expansion boxes around because his art was on them.

I do need to import the sound track collection at some point, too.

I'm probably not going to get this on PC though, probably PS3. Plus I already have a security token.

OMFG YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ill get the collectors. I love FFXI...but the slow progression + the hardcore boss/NM/Item camping sucks ass. So....hell yeah. Waited for a release date since Colette wrote the first time about FFXIV during e3 2009!

@Nytharas - Where the did you hear the PS3 version is coming "six months later?" Because I've heard nothing but world-wide simultaneous release for this game for all versions - and I've been keeping tabs on it. They wouldn't make that mistake again.

Its true PS3 version isn't in Beta yet, but that's because the PS3 version is also not that dissimilar from the PC version this time. Its not indicative of when the PS3 version gets released. They're actually not going to need so many people for the PS3 beta as they will for the PC one.

I used to be excited about this game, as an ex-FFXI player. Still admire the art style being used, but if the gameplay hasn't gone far since FFXI (and it seems that it hasn't, based on what I've read and seen), then I'm truly not that interested. I mean, I'm not asking for it to copy WoW or anything, but I think it needs to stand apart both from its own predecessor and other MMOs on the market. Challenging task, of course, and I am a bit disappointed that Square-Enix seems to have made less-than-ideal effort in that direction.

Who knows... All my other FFXI and WoW buddies seem like they're still on board, and honestly a good crowd can make up for a less than stellar game in some cases (at least in my experience), so maybe I'll end up with it anyway.

And jeez, those specs feel pretty dang high. While I sit comfortably higher than all of those recommended specs, the vcard requirement is spot on with my machine. The benchmark ran well at 1360x720 but chugged at 1920x1080 on my machine.

$50 for the game and only 30 days of play included? WTF? So they expect consumers to pay for it as a standard game while playing $13 a month to play it? (Oh right, I forgot they INCLUDED a full month of play (a $12.99 VALUE!) for FREE!!!)

Either make the game disks $20 or give the player 90 days free. I guess since it's a FF game they can Rape the fans on the front end and milk them dry on the back...

Why are people complaining about monthly fee's? It's an MMO, they all work one of three ways....

You either pay a monthly fee.

Or you play for free and "probably" can't progress very far, or get decent gear without paying ridiculous prices for micro transactions.

Or they are like WoW, which charges you a monthly fee, and has ridiculously priced micro transactions.

Sept. 30th... I've been doing the alpha testing and this release date shocks the hell out of me... I honestly didn't/don't expect to see it until next year but I guess they are confident they can/did fix all the bugs and server issues. Guess we find out in July during the beta. Also, the specs they listed are lower than the specs they listed for the alpha for sure.

The only way I'll throw down my cash is if they a) Actually make it possible to play the game solo, unlike FFXI, and b) Get rid of their bullshit thing where you have to pay for all the months you didn't play if your subscription lapses. I'd have taken another shot at XI if they didn't pull that bollocks.
Otherwise, it looks interesting, but I'm still pretty wary.

I have a feeling that they the PS3 version is going to require a subscription to PSN plus in order to play FFIX, if so I'll pass and give it a try on the PC.

@silversurf1981: They've already stated that online play for the ps3 regardless of regular or plus will be free, and given that SE has stated one of the reasons that it's only only on the PS3 (console wise) is because of MS's currently method of online play.

Forgot to reply to this one:
@branflakesinmilk: If it's like FFXI, then no, it's not a requirement, just an added layer of protection for your account. You'd have to pay.. 5-10 dollars for it separately? I don't remember the exact price (never bought one for my FFXI account), but I think it's pretty neat of them including it in the collectors. I think this is the version I'll be picking up.

It amazes me how little you people know about FFXI.

#1: Don't buy a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE game to play solo. Fuck..

#2: Just because YOU couldn't do something doesn't mean it's impossible. I soloed many of my jobs just to prove it was possible.

#3: Other bullshit. STFU

#4: You didn't have to grind. FFXI had more to do than any other game in existance. If you CHOSE to go grind, that doesn't mean the game didn't have hundreds of other things you could have been doing instead.

@Psamtik

I'm 100% positive FFXIV will require a subscription fee on PS3 and won't be free, they were just saying it won't require a plus membership. FFXI on 360 didn't require a gold membership but you still had to pay the monthly fee. Square would be stupid to just let PS3 owners play for free while PC owners have to pony up $13/month not to mention an extra $3/month for each extra character. There would be public castrations of square executives.

Ya so i thought i try the beta...
Thing is though, one of the required fields was "do you own a fansite", and there was no option for "no"
So either they screwed up the application, or beta is supposed to be limited to fansite owners... granted you could always lie...

@ChronosWing
Where did you find that THIS game will charge for additional characters

I played a little of the Alpha, and if the beta isn't any better I'm not getting this game. The camera controls were horrible and this game is ment to be played on a controller not a keyboard and mouse...yes even for the pc. I'm hoping beta changes my mind but if there gonna stick with the controller setup, I'm out.

What's with you people and your monthly fee hating? It's a freaking mmorpg. It has THOUSANDS of hours worth of gameplay content. Compare that to the 5-10 of most modern games that you pay $60 for. Not only that but it constantly evolves and changes. Patches with new content are added every month. Special events, new quests, new areas, new equipment, etc. There's a reason why the game has a monthly fee. Otherwise, it would cost $200+.

@Belegurth Same... MMO, PC, controller, what?? can anyone confirm this. They're going to stifle a lot of PC users if it's geared toward controller play on the PC. Since many consolers don't appreciate MMO's, this would be a poor move indeed. I was totally pumped for this game until i realized this could be true.

I played FFXI on Xbox 360 so a controller wouldn't be a big deal but I could go either way. I'd play with a mouse on keyboard if the option is there. These type of games are the only type I like to play that way anyway.

But, I'm not sure if I wanna get this or SWTOR. I'm at a lost there. I enjoyed FFXI but I never had the time to get into it. By the time I did get back to it everyone was such a high lvl I couldn't find anyone to play with and I didn't feel like grinding so harsh on solo. I don't want that to happen again and SWTOR says the will have a good solo campaign.
