According to a UK consumer site, Final Fantasy XIII is scheduled to sell more copies on the Xbox 360 than the PlayStation 3. Popular site MyVoucherCodes has revealed that it received more than 250,000 unique searches for the 360 version of XIII, compared to 120,000 searches for the PS3 variant during February.
If consumer interest is indicative of final sales, that would mean Final Fantasy will sell more than twice as well on the Xbox 360. MyVoucherCodes certainly seems to believe that Microsoft will win one of the most hotly contested and bitter battlegrounds in the current-gen console war.
"The Final Fantasy series has always been a huge draw for Sony, since its debut on the PlayStation in the form of Final Fantasy VII," says managing director Mark Pearson. "For Microsoft to now be sharing and in fact beating the interest for the PS3 version must be worrying Sony chiefs, who must be wondering just how to steal the march back, if it is at all possible. Our Christmas sales data showed that Xbox 360s were outselling PlayStation 3s three to one in the holiday period, a fact which seems to be presenting itself here as consumers show more interest in the Xbox 360 title."
Final Fantasy XIII is a catalyst for fanboy flamewars and console resentment, and you can guarantee that a lot of people will stake their personal pride on how well this game sells on their platform of choice. Such behavior is insane, but that's the way of the world. It's going to be very interesting to see the fallout from this game once it releases.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
This is almost common sense.
Oh shit, where is my Purple Flame Shield? Oh. Right. PSN down. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO *combusts almost spontaneously*
But I could just as easily see the 360 version outselling the PS3 version. Which would be so worth it just for the fanboy wars.
Surely that's the reason
I mean the ps3 version is the better option if you have both consoles. Not by a huge amount but still. Can't quite imagine anyone picking it up for 360 over ps3.
Also jrps have a history of well ,not doing well on the 360.
The US are a different story, with their widespread 360 dominance.
Not that the two versions will be any different. At all.
Quite right. However, in an article about potential sales, More 360's in circulation is definitely a valid point.
360 has the CE exclusively in USA too, right? If so, Game Set Match most likely.

The PS3 (IM-not-so-HO) is my preference because of interface, free online (which we all know is going away sooner or later) and historical precedent (I owned a PS One and a PS 2, never was an Xbox fan). But I still intend to one day own a 360. There are too many awesome console-exclusive titles to not want to own both. I include the Wii in this as well.
As far as the Final Fantasy franchise is concerned, GTA made its way onto the Xbox and that doesn't spell doom necessarily. Besides, people who bought the Xbox Arcade because of short term price incentives will feel the burn eventually as gaming moves on and the PS3 proves to be the more resilient (in terms of hardware) of the systems. It was the same with PS2 and Xbox. Sony is still raking in cash on the PS2, a system that is worth hanging on to, where as the original Xbox has become obsolete.
Really all it proves is that Xbox360 players are cheapsakes.
A PS3 can brick by switching it on. YLOD.
Or by putting a disk in the drive, the System can have read errors and brick.
like wise.
A 360 can brick by switching it on. RROD.
And a PC can have BIOS corruption and brick.
Nothing is brick proof, and you do not have "mess with it".
Something that affects the System Operating System is the most surefire way to break something. Which is why people go to lengths to avoid PC viruses.
i was reffering to the psn-clock issue that's hitting fat ps3's right now. They can't brick by that
Even if it doesn't sell well, if it sells anything....
@Jesse
I think MS will look to have 360 be a long tail, as PS2 has previously done, when they are ready to move to 720 or whatever. Live through it is more robust and user friendly than the original, and with much game available for DL, plus tv stuff, slap a 120gb hard drive onto it and you are good to go. A 360 can be picked up cheaper than Wii now, so by the end of this cycle, you might be able to get one for as cheap of £60/$70.
You comparing a 10% or less failure against 60+% failure system.
This is why a one year warranty is standard, however. I've seen the YLOD, a few times although since I was born with a little more brain than the average joe I fix them myself every time, just what I got to deal with being an original 60gig owner. Though most likely people get the so called YLOD and fix it themselves all the time, it's really not that hard. I've had from graphical glitchs (artifacts in the game like lines), DISC problems, HDD issues, ect ect,. all fixed by following basic steps in the Manual given. This is why some first party games for Sony tell you to read the manual because people are retarded.
Possibilty is the point I'm making.
Not Probabilty.
The likelihood of getting these, is as you said. I'm not comparing anything to anything, simply saying that you don't have to "mess" with the systems to break them.
Sony EU say they're working on this but no new news.
Check their Twitter.
I just sold back my 360 so if I ever get FF13 it will be on PS3, but I have little interest in it given the reviews I have read so far. Sounds way too limited. 12 was my favorite of the series of late and it doesn't sound much like that, nor does it seem to have the incredible story or characters like FF6, so I will likely pass until it is very cheap.
What's an FF game to you doesn't necessarily mean it's not FF to S-E.
if you go in expecting a game to rival your favourite FF, you'll likely be disappointed, If you go in expecting a good RPG... You might get a pleasant surprise.
