Final Fantasy XIII screens get their Odin on photo

Some new Final Fantasy XIII screens have hit the net, showing off more of Odin, the obligatory summon that finds his way into most FF games worth their salt. Like all summons in the game, Odin will be controlled either as a player character, or as a "Gestalt," where he'll transform into some sort of vehicle for one of the characters. Odin's Gestalt mode allows Lightning to ride his horse. Snazzy!

As we've come to expect from Final Fantasy XIII screens, the new images are quite gorgeous and make the battles look like some of the best combat yet seen in the RPG series. I'm not officially in anticipation of this game after the lengthy wait and Spring 2010 still seems like a long way away.

How about you guys? Got the hype tinglies yet?

I'm afraid for how hyped I am for this game. I was really let down by FF12 and some of Square Enix's other releases. This one might redeem it, though. I'm having trouble seeing how anything could go wrong...other than the story, but that's not something SE has had problems with lately.

I've had the hype tinglies
since I finished everything in FFXII and immediately started aching for the next game in the series. Every picture, video, and bit of information that I've seen since then has only added to it.

I always want the next FF game. I do miss my summons being super awesome. I hope they are actually useful in this game. I never used them at all in FF XII.

I just finished VI and started FFX, so of course I'm excited for this game.

Not to mention Odin is usually one of my favorite summons in each game, I love that he is Lightning's summon.

But I've been hearing conflicting reports now about the horse. I've heard from some (like just now in the article) that his Gestalt mode will let Lightning ride his horse, but from others I've heard that Odin himself will actually "transform" into a horse and that Lightning will ride him as a horse? Anyone sure about this?

I noticed in the trailer the horse riding, but it was a four-legged horse, not a six-legged one. Did they gimp Odin's horse, or is it a different horse?

I'll be excited for this game once I have confirmation of the following-

Doesn't fucking contain 6 hours of grinding between every 2 hours of actually relevant gameplay.

Doesn't pad out the plot by making you traverse ridiculously long expanses of land only to arrive at the proper destination entirely underleveled. I'm looking at you Ogir-Yensa Sandsea.

Also, no sandseas. What the fuck is a sandsea? For fucks sake.

They explain the sandsea and if you aren't underleved after getting through it as long as you fight what you come across that you know you can beat. I've been playing a no-grind FF12 game and it's really easy. You're just supposed to run away from the first Demon Wall.
