Logic!
I bought Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3 because of this weird sense of consistency and the fact that it was uncompressed did make a case for it.
The PS3 version, in this case, was the obvious superior and the only reason people would buy it on 360 is if that was their only console.
It's that simple.
I would like to see the sales numbers based on geographic region. I think the PS3-versions success is partially because of the the popularity of JRPGs in Japan, and how immensely outmatched the 360 is over there.
Also, the FF franchise has been associated with the Playstation brand since FF7 and to me it seems like the Playstation has the most brand-faithful gamers and also have the longest history with the FF games. I think a significant number of 360 gamers with a copy of FF13 are new to the franchise. Pure speculation of course.
Though, given my disdain for overly-linear gameplay, I'll have to think a little longer before purchasing this one.
"It's worse than that, he's dead, Jim.. dead, Jim.. dead, Jim"
I miss spitting image.
NPD data track american sales. Anyway according to vgchartz, the PS3 version also sold about double the 360 one in Europe, a less remarkable feat since here the PS3 has actually a slightly bigger install base. In Japan the game is PS3 exclusive, but that's a different third set of data.
That said, I'd say the real winner here is Square Enix. They sold an extra half-million copies of the game by porting it over, which I'm sure made it worth their while.
However I hope this doesn't discourage Square from continuing the multiplatform FF games as I have been considering a purchase with a 360 version on the shelves.
I'm pretty sure that video of FF fans booing the 360 version at a UK event is a pretty good indicator of where the more hardcore fans loyalties lie.
Idiots.
The FMV compression on the 360 was... bad, though.
the only explanation i can come up with is the historical relationship between the PS brand and FF, maybe it just feels good to play it on the ps3, just like when people say it feels good to play megaman 10 on the wii
Halo 3 and Gears of War as popular console-exclusive franchises is indicative of a console made for twitch-gamers? Really?
I reckon there are more Xbox users who also have PS3, than PS3 users who also have 360's. Wrap your noggin around that one!!
If you've got both consoles, get it on PS3.
If you've just got a PS3, get it on PS3.
If you've just got a 360, get it on that.
Think the fact that gamers either waited till the PS3 came out and got that, or got a 360, then a PS3 when it came out/got to a reasonable price, or just got a 360 means there is more of an audience on PS3 for any game that is claimed to be better on the PS3.
My point being, uh, I dunno. Smoked a spliff at lunchtime. Fuck it. TREY WHOOOOO!!!!!!!
Xbox sucks whooooo!!
God i'm glad it's Friday.
I don't hate the genre. I love jrpgs. Play and beat. Lost odyessey which really good. Star ocean was good on 360, I even made through last rement. And bayonetta was awesome. I'm right now playing resonance of fate. And I got nier pre ordered I love jrpgs. I'm saying ff13 is just an extremely over done and they could of you know not make the characters annoying LO has good jrpg characters. Even mac becomes a bad ass and pretty cool. Jrpgs should model character designes after that group, and just to burst your bubble bayonetta sold better here in the states on 360 because you know there wasn't screen tear, glitchs all that good stuff.
