After ten billion years of waiting, Final Fantasy XIII releases today in North America, with a last-minute announcement that will give PS3 fans something else to beam about in one of the console wars' most bitter battleground. The PlayStation 3 version of the game is getting an exclusive.
XIII PS3 will give players a "secret in-game item" for use with Final Fantasy XIV when it releases later this year. They will also be in with a chance of getting into the beta. Square Enix "Point Cards" will be packaged into the initial run of PS3 copies, which can be used on Square-Enix Members to redeem a code.
Sony would like to remind you that the PS3 version is the one to get. "The Final Fantasy franchise has long been synonymous with the PlayStation brand," writes Sony demagogue Rob Dyer. "Who could forget Final Fantasy VII on PSone and Final Fantasy X proved to be a landmark achievement when it launched on the PS2."
I think Sony should just pretend Final Fantasy XIII is an exclusive. It would be funny.

Wierd situation with this one, my buddy (Xbox fanboy, who only bought an xbox because he couldn't afford a PS3 at the time)...

That's actually a good point. I myself am going to wait to get GoW III because I'd prefer FF XIII and I'm sure that I'm not alone.
I'm not sure if I should take that as a compliment or if I should feel ashamed of myself haha!
And frankly, though I'm getting it on PS3 I could care less about FFXIV (in fact I read FFIV at first...) so a few FF avatar costumes sounds better to me, even I don't care for avatars either :)

Still, I'll probably pick this up for the PS3 after it drops in price.

Meh: it turned out all right when Microsoft did it for MW2.
But this time, it is going out of its way to try and find me on my 360. I at least owe it a try.
MS wants FFXIV on the XBL Gold Service.
SE doesn't like that, they want the deal they got with FFXI, which was making the game available on XBL Silver. That way gamers that only wanted to pay fees for FFXIV wouldn't be stuck with MS's fees a well.
Some people on FFXI for PS2 or 360 would actually get an extra 360 or PS2 just so they could keep FFXI up and running on one platform without taking attention away from others. FFXIV could sell a few extra 360s to the FFXIV crowd, so I don't see why MS needs to have it on XBL Live Gold.
