The Japanese release of Final Fantasy XIII is imminent, and so Square Enix has wrapped up its promotion for the game in the Eastern part of the world. It's gone out with a bang, however, as Square Enix has revealed its "final" trailer, giving us a whopping five minutes of footage.

Of course, as Square Enix finishes prepping the game for Japan, it must turn its gaze toward we lowly round eyes, so don't expect the coverage to end any time soon. In the mean time, watch this trailer and flick your frenulum over some ludicrously beautiful visuals.

God damn, this game looks good.

And now I stay away from Youtube until Mar 9, because some nut is going to put a whole lot of gameplay on that site, possibly spoiling all the juicy bits for me.

I'm so happy I had to learn japanese. I'm putting in my pre-order for the import right now. Then I'll probably buy the english version too.

I'll probably get it, as an FF game has not steered me wrong so far, except for X-2, which I maintain is not an actual FF game, but a rather horrible J-pop fangirl's fantasy PRETENDING to be an FF game.

However, I am seeing shades of X-2 in this game. It horrifies me. I still think this game will be good, but the FF series has a whole is edging closer and closer to that dark abyss.

And the fashion is getting more and more ludicrous. It was pretty ludicrous in FFX and FFXII, but now it's just horrendous. I'm not saying that I would prefer it to be brought back to its FANTASY roots (actually I am saying that). I just wish it would return to the style of FFIX and not pretend to be some sort of Japanese Pop Show.

That might very well be the gheyest trailer I have ever watched. What's with the super-lame music?

I saw this trailer on a 0203948709872304987 ft screen at TGS. Got goosebumps. Incredible trailer.

"God damn, this game looks good."

No. No, it certainly doesn't. It looks absurdly overwrought, and like any other generic JRPG, although with a bit more flash and glitz. We already know a number of things about this game, because we've played other finfan games. We know it will had lots and lots of random encounters, which, despite the flashy fight animations, will become massively tedious and repetitive, and we know that the plot won't make one god damned bit of sense, no matter how you look at it. Also, we know that hordes of sweaty fanboys with poor hygiene will ejaculate praise all over it claiming that it's the best game ever, when it is, in fact, just the latest generic title in the most overrated gaming series of all time.

In before, "there's no chainsaw gun, AND THAT'S TEH REASON YOU WESTERN GAMERZ DON'T GET ITZ. I AM SUPERIOR IN MY BAD TASTE AAGAGAGAAGA!!!!"

That trailer makes the game looks really, really horrific. Judging from what I've seen so far, FF XIII looks like it's going to be generic, kitschy, and overly sentimental.

Then again, I stopped playing the series at FF XI. So what do I know?

Thank you Square Enix for the worst song and video I've seen today. When I am done gouging my eyes and ear drums out with a soldering iron, you can expect a nasty letter... while we all expect a nasty game.

I'm pumped for this game, it looks really badass.

If you're here to talk trash, STFUAJPG. Ripping on a game on the internet only serves as proof that you're a waste of the air you breathe.

@Electrium

How is ripping on a game, by posting on an internet site devoted to gaming, proof that I'm a waste of the air that I breath?

I think that Destructoid is actually an appropriate place to do this. Would you prefer me to tell the FF XII team my feelings directly?

Help me out, I'm a bit confused.

I'm starting to get a bit hyped about this; The earlier trailer footage made the game look pretty damn generic and lame, but all that new footage at the end has piqued my interest.

Still gonna buy the game, but point remains. :P

What an awful trailer. It *looks* so good, but they drowned it out with that yawn inducing song. The score will probably be incredible, so why make it look like a melodrama? FFVIII started a trend with pop star tie ins that desperately needs to FUCK OFF.

If they did this, I think I would just go crazy. FFIX is the best of the bunch, easily...

I don't know whats worse: The sappy, corn-filled first half or the Michael Bay three cuts a second bullshit of the second half.

Either way, it sucked ass.

Oh noes!! Japanese voices! Japanese values! Japanese songs! Japanese cinematics! Maybe this is all because the trailer is meant to be for JAPAN you sack of dumbasses.

Despite the way the trailer is made, I can tell it's a game I'll want to get. That was possibly some of the best lip syncing I've seen in a game, FMV or no. Combat looks like a hybrid of X and XII. I'll look for more info on the game when it's closer to release stateside.

Some parts of the trailer weirded me out a bit, probably because I have so little context to put them in with the Japanese voices, but I'm still super excited for this.

Yeah that trailer didn't turn me on at all. I love Final Fantasy and will get this game no matter how bad SE manages to make it look. But I do kind of fear for the over-the-top melodrama. I hope this game doesn't suck. And if so, there's always vs13.

You didn't even play FFXII, did you? I didn't particularly like it, but saying it's close to becoming a Japanese Pop Show is probably one of the least thought-out insults I can imagine. The tone of the game was incredibly serious and somber, and the amazing voice work helped flesh out that concept. There was no equivalent of the Zell/Zidane/Wakka 'guy that's a jokester always trying to cheer everyone up by not taking things seriously'. It's just a shame the story and gameplay weren't up to snuff with the rest.

I'm pretty excited about XIII, but this trailer didn't really do anything for me. It's getting a little boring seeing cutscene after cutscene after cutscene; I'm already sold, you don't have to keep giving me more. I just want to play the damn game already.
