Final Fantasy XII CE price drop + Cosplayers make me want to die photo

Kotaku (the only other website on the internet who can claim to have derived their name from a Mary Shelley novella) had an article up today revealing to the world that the Electronics Boutique/Gamestop conglomerate would be dropping the price on the Collector's Edition of Final Fantasy XII just in time for the holidays. If you don't have FFXII already, you will be able to get the Fancy Sparkly Edition (now with 20% more homoeroticism!) for the same price as the regular Lame-o Edition (that gives you crabs), $49.99.

More important than that, they had a link to one of the most disturbing photo galleries you will ever see on God's green internet. Gamestop recently concluded a contest where people could dress up as various Final Fantasy characters, and, as you can probably guess, the lamest of the lame and the, er, fattiest of the fatties showed up in droves to strut far too much flesh in costumes not meant for reality. Sadly, they wound the gallery in a tight ball of Flash and bad juju that prevents me from ripping off their images, but hit that link that I provided above for copious amounts of photographs that you can use to frighten the elderly or traumatize young girls into bulimia

The cosplays are not that bad, I have seen FAR FAR worse.

There are some good one's in there with the bad one's but none that are eye gouge worthy.

Yeah, most of those are pretty lame-ass, but I must give some of them credit for trying something reasonably original. Seeing Gogo (FFVI) done in cosplay fashion is rather impressive.

Well, think of the psychology behind cosplay. They're dressing up as someone else, someone more interesting, and with a better love life probably. These people [the cosplayers] are trying to escape from the mundane and insignificance of their ordinary lives to become scantily-clad princesses or androgynous heroes. Not that all cosplay is bad, some of it can be pretty good, I appreciate a well-made cosplay as much as the next guy. Sadly, we can't all be beautiful people, and it's the--as George Carlin put it--those with severe appearance deficits, that drag the overall quality of cosplay down.

First off, it's a submit your photo contest. And you guys should know as well as anybody how many cosplay pictures are floating around the internet. I'll bet my left nut that half of those pictures were sent by people who aren't even in them.

I mean, c'mon! Half of those pictures are of Japanese people! They shouldn't even know what GameStop is!

Ugh, I almost vomited a few times looking through that gallery. Who in their right mind would dress as Yuna with cankles that large?!!

Sounds like SOMEBODY's angry their entry was rejected...

I abhor looking at fat people in skimpy costumes as much as everyone else, but some of those costumes are pretty damn good. I wouldn't cosplay myself, but what's with the hateful revulsion? Did cosplayers kill your family and rape your dog or something?

"Ha ha Cosplay is teh funny, let's make teh blog post about it! Surely this is news!"

Really, have you seen bad cosplay? The majority of these are actually pretty decent and some are damn amazing.

The elitism of some gamers is amazing. Some act as if hte obsessive are a geek exclusive group. This isn't any more hardkore or obsessive then those people that paint there whole body and go to football games.

Ha ha, was that to me brad?

No, I didn't enter it. Mainly because I don't have the time, money, patience, or obsession.

But it still irks me.

Well, actually it was directed at nex, but I guess it applies to you too. To be honest, the FFX-2 yuna on page 1 justified the whole thing for me.
