I'm really excited to get this running on a Vita, personally. I'm all about it.
@Taerdin
Hardly the worst, though not the best.
In most cases with a last generation game, a remaster is all that's needed. Most of the best of last gen aged incredibly well. MGS3 especially, to the point it makes some current-gen games look like weak efforts.
Plus "remaster" sounds cooler.
I personally loved the remaster of FFIV for the DS. It was like playing it again for the first time and I smiled like a maniac to myself for a month while playing it on the train to work.
People started that shit back when FFVII dared to use polygons. Besides, FFXIII is the one everyone resoundingly agrees is shit because it was just bad all around. FFXIV was also undeniably rushed to market and suffered greatly for it.
But X, XI and XII - fuck off. Those were all good games. Perhaps not for everyone, but not bad at all.
Since the only thing they can seem to do right in games these days is graphics, they might as well "remaster" every FF game that was good.
Therefore taking the pressure of the studio to address that horrid "gameplay" aspect they hate so much.
Really? 'amazed at how people can HATE'? I didn't see any hate at all here. Just some people saying that it's not their favourite or for them personally it wasn't that good.
There's a big difference between that and hate. Please learn the difference.
Other than that, the game felt like it was designed by a committee. Forget about all the things that were tangibly wrong with the game, it just lacked passion where it counted. It took everything that made FF IX such an amazing PSX swan song, and replaced those things with an emphasis on stunning visuals.
Honestly, its the gaming equivalent of Twilight. A poorly written senseless love story starring cardboard characters, wrapped in a facade of supernatural intrigue that is somehow more boring than real life in rural Kentucky.
New weapons, side missions, and maybe even summons sounds good to me.
X was always one of my least favourite. I felt so cheated when I realised you couldn't fly around Spira with the airship :(
I like XIII,it's far from my favorite but I still enjoyed my playthrough of it.
I agree with you on the "decline" thing, that shit got old about 15 years ago.
I would be much happier seeing FF VI, VII, VIII or IX being remade.
If it's the former with the extra international content, much better textures, etc. then awesome. If it's just, "Oh, we upscaled the resolution to 1080p and 60fps" then I ask, why not just release a friggin' HD collection instead?! What a waste.
XII was actually a really good game. It never made sense why people absolutely hated it. Some of the characters did leave something to be desired, but everything else was fine. I'd much rather see the series head in the direction of XII than any of the PSX FFs or X.
I have every intention of getting this game for Vita on launch.
XIII-2 might be the turning point where they've started listening to the latter.
@Dr.Rocko - A remaster is essentially an enhanced port, the same game it was before with some better high-res textures and improved resolution to make things look better. Maybe throw in some new control options. That's it. Halo CE Anniversary or Ico/SotC would be this.
A remake entails rebuilding an old game with entirely new assets. Think the Resident Evil remake on GameCube or Tactics Ogre LUCT on PSP.
Unless Square is doing a large overhaul of the graphics similar to Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, I just don't understand why they would only remaster one game. Seems like a missed opportunity considering how many people are demanding Final Fantasy XII HD as well.
Oh, and what happened to those portable remakes of V and IV SE was working on a couple of years ago? I'd pay absolutely stupid amounts of money for those.
Fat chance!
The twisting plot was very engaging and really made you feel like a stranger in a strange land that tries to destroy you for cheating its "rules".
The world building was phenomenally well-done and puts FF13's encyclopedia of "telling but not showing" method to shame. Not to mention the art style was beautiful for Spira. I don't see why people complain about Nomura's characters (it's his STYLE) in this industry plagued with boring cloaks, knight armor, space suits and shaved heads.
The music was amazing, perhaps not as many quality tracks as previous FF games...but there were still more great themes than most soundtracks in games.
And the ending was something I'll definitely not forget, it was so well done.
Lulu's cleavage begs to differ.
Hopefully this game will do well and make Squenix use X's battle system for XV. Cause that system was the tits.
And FFX is an awesome game. *sunglasses* Deal with it.
Now would Squenix please remake FF VI so I can finally see what the fuss is all about without having to deal with SNES graphics? Thank you!
