Music4Games has run their advance review of OverClocked Remix's super-ambitious upcoming album Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream, a massive 45-song re-imagining of Nobuo Uematsu's original score for the famed PlayStation role-playing game.

M4G bravely attempts to cover the four-disc compilation, which clocks in at almost three-and-a-half hours of listening time. Everything from the "Overworld" to "Sephiroth's Theme" is covered by many genres of music, and reviewer Jayson Napolitano does his best to give us an idea of what we can expect from the collection, calling it "one of the most impressive and encompassing listening experiences in the world of video game music."

"It doesn’t get much better than this when it comes to arrangement albums," says Napolitano.  "Needless to say, if Square Enix does ever get around to a Final Fantasy VII remake, their new-and-improved score is ready to go.

This freely available, fan-made album will be available to download at OverClocked Remix starting on September 14th, so fans of Final Fantasy, Nobuo Uematsu, and game music in general should mark their calendars.

I'll download it, but I'm skeptical. Overclocked houses some of the most pretentious music ever. I'm still pissed about the Mother 2 remix album.

Riser, trust me. I had the same thing on my mind as well. This project rights all the wrongs of the past. =)

I love how we didn't even make the Mother 2 album at OC ReMix, and we still get flack for it. It's a kickass album regardless.

As far I'm concerned, pretentiousness is great if it means this caliber of music. If it's wrong, I don't wanna be right.

It's right though.

@Liontamer

It's music, but it's not Mother 2 music. I tried so hard to like it, but the "fun" of Mother 2 didn't translate. At all. Why bother making tributes if it doesn't capture the feel of the thing they are making the tribute to? I'm not pissed that I didn't like the music, though. I'm pissed that they spent all that time and completely missed the point.

It looks Dale won't be fired today. Don't worry. There is always tomorrow.

Good job. I enjoyed the original soundtrack. I might have to download this someday.

Would people shut the hell up about Final Fantasy VII for Christ's sake. It wasn't even that good I'm so sick of this game being bleed for eons.

Argh...I'm at a crossroads when it comes to this. Part of me wants to download this because not only is it free, but I did enjoy their Chrono Trigger fan album they put out awhile back =). On the other hand, however, I'm not the biggest FF7 fan. It was a decent game, sure, but it was hardly the second coming of Game Christ like everyone makes it out to be.

That title is purely reserved for the 2012 Game of the Year: Gears of War 4: Blood Dumpster Locust Babies

But...but... what happened to the Tales of Phantasia remix album? I mean FF VII is nice and all, and I'm sure this will be phenomenal quality, but I've still heard it in a 1000 other forms already...

Been waiting a long time for this. You can argue that FF7 wasn't a great game, but you can't argue that it didn't have a great score. If you try, you are a moron.

@NightDehumidifier

When someone makes a game that matches or surpasses FF7 on all fronts, we'll be able to move on partially. However, even then, FF7 will still hold a special place in all of our hearts.

"Why bother making tributes if it doesn't capture the feel of the thing they are making the tribute to?"
The traditional answer is that if all you want to do is "capture the feel," you might as well listen to the original soundtrack.

"I'm not pissed that I didn't like the music, though. I'm pissed that they spent all that time and completely missed the point."
On the contrary, it seems you're the one who spent all that time listening to the project and missed the point. Sorry you expected it to be something it wasn't.
