Despite having a whole wad of brand new and original games all the time, such as Gran Turismo PSP or Critter Crunch, the PlayStation Network proves that nostalgia overcomes all, with Final Fantasy VII remaining the online service's most popular download in both the United States and Japan.
Here's the most recent North American sales chart, with FFVII sitting atop it like some mad old king:
1. Final Fantasy VII
2. Zombie Apocalypse
3. TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled
4. .deTuned
5. UNO
6. Gran Turismo PSP
7. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
8. Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest For Booty
9. Critter Crunch
10. God of War: Chains of Olympus
Final Fantasy VII's performance is pretty impressive for a game released in 1997, and it's kind of amusing to note that the PSP and PS3, two systems sold on the strength of their graphical horsepower, are making loads of cash off an old and graphically dated RPG. Still, the PSPgo is pretty much the best PSOne I ever had, so I can totally understand it.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
But FFVII doesn't surprise me. When I get a PS3 I plan on reminding myself what all the fuss is about.
A burn? I took it as a complement. A burn would be that his PSP Go is better used as a pepper weight or an object that clogs toilets. ITS A COMPLIMENT! Write this in the books sir, Jim (the xbot) Sterling complimented the PSP Go on one of its functions.
I took it as saying that the Go was good for playing PS1 games and nothing else. Perhaps that's just my pessimistic nature shining through.
Any sales numbers to go along with this? Im curious how much money Sony has made sense releasing FFVII on psn.
Where the fuck is the remake?
Also, I don't know why everyone wants FFVIII so much compared to the other games that could be released. I really want Chrono Cross and Xenogears to be on the Playstation Store since they never originally game out in Europe.
I don't see the point in remaking FFVII. I mean, I do, but I guarantee you if they do remake it, they'll update it with a million different things (Advent Children visuals, voiceovers where there were none, etc.) and it would be one of the most polarizing games to ever come out.
FFXIII will also suck.
It wasn't the best game of 1997, the best RPG of 1997, or even the best FF of 1997 (FF Tactics anyone). Hell, its not even the best RPG of September of 1997, that goes to Fallout.
So true. I actually enjoyed FF6 a lot more than FF 7, and
@Daewootech
Dude, if you want a fast FF game, try FF9 when trying to get to hades for that sword..
wrong wrong wrong wrong!
wrong wrong wrong wrong!
you're wrong!
you're wrong!
Fingers crossed for a remake.
from this data i doubt Braid or Castle Crashers will do well on psn and it's data like this that probably explains why such content is released last on psn - psn users are very strictly loyal to sony franchises and nothing else it seems
...I'm already sticking to FF6 since it's more superior. Shadow > Vincent, Locke > Cid, oh... and Mog, Gogo and Umaro > Everyone else in the FF7 cast.
You're all wrong! :P
Maybe because its overrated.
Even if it is also an old game, marvel VS Capcom 2 needs more attention. But so do CritterCrunch and Shatter.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
@texasgoldrush
You shut your whorish mouth, you lying scumbag. /overreaction
If FFVIII is released on PSN it will be a completely different story. Will play that game to death for the hundredth time.
Please just remake FF7 already. Really all you have to do is update the graphics. That's it. Not hard. Seriously, we'll all buy it. You'll make gazillions, fanboys (and most gamers) will cheer, and one of my best friends can then die happy. The End.
Love,
Many, many gamers.
P.S. It'll help save the PS3.
