Final Fantasy VII is rated by ESRB photo

Wait for it. Wait for it. There! Did you hear it? It was the collective squeal of thousands of Final Fantasy fanboys. The ESRB has let slip a little information that Sony was probably hoping to drop on us at their E3 conference. The listing shows Final Fantasy VII for the PS3 and the PSP, so it looks like FFVII on the go is Go. Hell, they might even be planning to drop the game on Tuesday, the day of their press conference, which would be a nice little surprise.

Obviously, rumors have been flying for a while that Square Enix would be re-releasing FFVII in one format or another. The game is the RPG that made Final Fantasy the name it is today and Square Enix has whored it out to no end. Why it took this long to get it out for download is beyond me. There's no word if anything is going to be revamped graphically or gameplay-wise, but we do know that it will be rated Teen for comic mischief, mild fantasy violence and mild language. If you've popped the game in recently, you're probably hoping they've done a bit of a graphical overhaul, as Cloud's Popeye-like arms are pretty hilarious in this day and age.

Oh snap!

Even if this is just a PSone download on the PSN store, I'm totally happy to have this game on the go on the PSP.

If it really is the holy grail remake, then this blog won't matter because the internet will have 'sploded.

About to replay the PC version over here, now wondering weather I should wait to see if this is a remake or cash in. Even just cleaner gfx & quicker loads would be nice.

Graphical remake? Advance-era bonus missions? Anyone? Anything to that end would almost make up for the Crimson Echoes debacle. (almost.)

Personally, I still have my old PS1 copy to play -- so if this is the straight-forward port I expect it is, I have no reason to get it. I guess it's good news for anyone who hasn't had the chance to play FF7 before, but those people are probably going to be quite shocked at what they find, and not in a good way. The graphics are kind of an eyesore, and the translation isn't very good either.

If they at least cleaned up the dialogue, and smoothed the textures, it might be worth playing again.

All you people who slag FFVII off who started playing 9, then 8 and went back from there know nothing. FFVII is one of the best games you could ever play. OK there's alot of text and the graphics are shoddy but are graphics all that counts? Not the atmosphere the game can create and the ridiculously superior story when compared to FF8 or FF9? Through a standard def tv the game is just about playable but on a PS3 on a HDTV it is, I admit, completely unplayable. So why not go for the best option? Obtain a copy of FFVII for PC, install the official patch for use on newer graphics cards and hey presto! FFVII is the best way possible, albeit in 640x480 resolution but fully playable all the same.
